B;sNuke, love the bio! I am a single with 4 kids. My nuke is my youngest. No husband, no pets, but 9 grandkids with 2 on the way. My nuke went to MEPS May 12, 2010, went ELT after Proto, served junior staff for 2 yrs in BS before serving on the USS Carl Vinson for 3 yrs. Now he's at the NNPTC and his wife is 1 of my expectant onesl My SIL is a nuke veteran that works now at a nuclear power plant. I have met B'sNuke and few other moms over the yrs. Best mamas ever!

Chipmunk - I can't wait to become a grandma - although right now it doesn't look like it will be anytime soon :(  Lucky you!

Navymom - my hubby was born in Madison but they moved to CA when he was 6 weeks old (my FIL was in the Navy - in the Sea of Japan when hubby was born).

KJNukeMom - Oh my goodness I know how you feel. I was just talking about this exact thing to some other Mom's in my sons class. I remember so well being in shoes a little less than 2 years ago. My son left for bootcamp August 24th 2017 and graduated 10/20/17. It was the longest 8-9 weeks of my life. Then they move to GC and there is a huge relief because now you have contact again. It's awesome. But, school starts and then it's a huge adjustment as the schooling is like being shot with a firehose of information. It's takes them a while to find what works for them and adjust to the workload. The hours they have to put in are crazy and the work is difficult but as they adjust to it so do we. Then the time seems to go faster as we get used to them being away from us and adjust to a new normal. THEN!!! Before you know it your planning your trip down for their final graduation ceremony and now that you have adjusted to him being in SC for 2 years he gets his orders and you have a whole new situation to deal with. It is for sure a roller coaster ride of emotions. Sometimes I'm sad I don't get to see him, sometimes I'm so excited of the adventure he is going to have but always I am so so so super duper proud of the man he has become thanks to his experience in the Navy!! What I need now is to figure out how I'm going to get across the country to visit him!! What's the best credit card to get airline miles?????? LOL!!

Ok, I'll bite! Have been married for 11 years,  been together 17. My nuke (A - 19) is in the pipeline. It's been a process and we've learned a lot. I miss him terribly but am thankful that at this point in the game we can still talk every day. Our oldest daughter (B) is 17 and just finishing up her junior year of HS. She is in the process of choosing a college where she hopes to play softball and study pre-med biology. Our middle daughter (L - 8) is going into 3rd grade and plays softball like her big sis. Our youngest daughter (P - 3) will start preschool this fall and I can't believe how fast time goes! We have a 14 year old doggo and two cats. It's a zoo but it's good. Glad to have this space to connect with other moms that have gone or are going through the nuke experience.

Welcome to all of our new members. My profile page is open and you can read about me there. My sailor is an ETN3 who graduated in the April Prototype class at GC and is INDOC at his new duty station. He is assigned to the USS FORD and we are both just beginning to learn the ropes.  As long as we have an easy means of communication my sailor is very communicative and so helps me answer questions.  I need to add to my profile page that I will be a Grandma in Dec!!

JayDee - thanks for the "natural" insecticide, I passed the recipe on to a couple of my girls who can't do the regular DEET.

We've got a lot of new members - might be nice to have everyone (re)introduce themselves. (Be mindful of OPSEC.)

I'll start - hubby & I have been married 31 years (in August) - together for almost 37 years.  We have 2 boys - B (nuke veteran) who will be 30 in 2 weeks and youngest son, N, will be 25 in August.  B is engaged to C (also a nuke veteran) and they live in MI - both going to MSU using their GI Bills to finish up their degrees. They are getting married here in CA - 7/19/2020. Youngest is finishing his masters in August in Sport and Performance Psych - he's an asst. cross country/track and field coach at the University where he did his undergrad.  We have a lovable one-eyed rescue fur-baby named Marti (she's Marti with an I, one I (eye) - get it?!?). I'm born & raised in SoCal and I love meeting new navy moms lol (and I've met a number of you!)

B'sNukeMom, skin so soft works well. One can also make a homemade spray of 2 parts distilled white vinegar, one part water, 5 drops eucalyptus and 5 drops peppermint. Also discourages fleas and ticks. Peppermint is not good for dogs or cats so please think of your fur babies if you use this around them.

I just remembered you all were talking about the bugs in Goose Creek - when B was there I would send him Avon Skin So Soft.  It seemed to help......and you can order it online ;-D

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Freebird - I responded to your PM directly but I will share again on here for some of the newer members.  When B was in Power School he didn't pass comp the first time around.  We were literally getting ready to fly out from CA when we got the call.  We ended up not going as he said they would be studying all weekend and through the weekend in order to recomp the next week and we wouldn't really be able to spend any time with him.  I don't remember what day the recomp was but it was early the following week.  At the time he told us that this was the largest # of students in a PS class to have to recomp. (Of course this might be something they tell every class lol!).  But needless to say they did the recomp and everyone passed.  He said they even had a couple of people that had been at the top of the class the entire time and they didn't pass and had to recomp.  So it can happen to anyone.

There is also another situation that they do - acboard (academic board).  B didn't go before acboard - just had the recomp.  I believe the acboard they go before the higher ups and have to verbally test too.

Either way it's not the end of the world - most will pass the recomp but if they don't then they most likely will be re-rated.  Again, not the end of the world.

So BZ to those that passed and good luck to any having to recomp.  Like I told B all the time "You've got this!"
