JayDee659 Thank you for your advice. That's such a great point. I think he has it in his head that he will just have to get rid of it in a year or so. I'll let him know that there's other options, and he should ask about storage and shipping at whatever base he ends up at. Thanks again!

TitoMom, my Nuke and Nuke-in-Law purchase their cars and since they made payments on time, their credit was nicely established and they were able to buy their own home when they got orders for Norfolk.  My Nuke has the same car she purchased during prototype.  She could have left it on base during deployment but her husband took it home.  Now he's doing underways on his sub and frequently leaves his Corvette on base without issue.   Of course, my daughter picks it up occasionally so she can zoom around in it.

The point is, the payments will help build credit (as I'm sure you know) and they don't have to get rid of their vehicles during deployment.

ProudofK  Thank you for the advice. That was my advice to him in the first place, but we'll see what he decides. :) I think his biggest problem is getting something and then having to deal with selling it later. He thought the lease would allow him to be "done" with it when he no longer needs it. I know he is not foreseeing all the possible scenarios, so I'm grateful for those who know more about Navy life than we do. I am passing everything on to help with this decision. Thanks again!

Oh and I'm not familiar with most of the restaurants mentioned but loved Fleet Landing. Actually went there on two different trips. Also really liked a place called Red's Ice House I believe.

TitoMom - you may not like my advice but first I would never lease a car as it is the most expensive way to have a car. Second there is no guarantee he will be deploying right after he gets out of the pipeline - they may be assigned to a carrier or sub that's in dry dock for months or years. Third, my advice would be to buy a car he can pay for with cash - no car loan. It will put him way ahead financially in the long run.

We ate at Fleet Landing and Pearlz Oyster Bar, both very good!

Sub Mom, My sailor's favorite restaurant is Hymans Seafood  in downtown Charleston.  It is fun to walk around to the stores and eat at that restaurant.  The best hush puppies I have ever had!  Sticky Fingers Ribs is also good (at least the ribs are).  It is on the same street as Hymans

@B'sNukeMom & WearsLargeHats  Thank you for the links and advice. I did tell him to be upfront with his intentions when talking to a dealership. I forwarded the links for him to go over and told him to see what kind of rate he can get through Navy Federal. You've helped a lot.

@Arly8 Thank you for the advice of seeing if anyone is leaving and wanting to sell their vehicle. I told him he should ask around.

@ CSW My sailor has leased a car with Toyota during college and they were very helpful then as well. He was thinking about taking with them again.

Thanks for all the comments. It really helps.

Thanks MetroMom! My parents will be with us so I want to find local places that won’t break the bank.
