I also deal with splitting time when my kids come home. One seems to come here and take advantage to get me to drive him 6 hours to his dad's for the holidays. Last time his gift from me was a bus ticket. He lives in Alaska now that he is out of the navy so I don't get to see him a lot.

His twin is at Pearl Harbour and tends to hang here more.

Co-Twin - I am going to send you a PM.  I live in Chico too!  We have been having heavy smoke, and a small part of the city was evacuated Thursday night.  Everybody I personally know that lived in Paradise is safe, but everybody I know in general knows several people who have lost their homes.  The devastation is just astounding, but there are some really uplifting stories coming out too.  Prayers for everybody, victims and heroes.  My Nuke will not be home for Thanksgiving, but we recently saw him for the weekend in San Diego at the Notre Dame/Navy game (didn't realize until later that B'sNuke was there too), and he said he's pretty sure he will be home for Christmas.  We've been pretty lucky - this will be his 6th Christmas since joining, but he has only missed 2 with us.

Don't forget to wear your RED tomorrow!

B'sNukeMoM - you are so right about spending time with your sailor. We take every minute we can get - even if it means pizza in lieu of a holiday dinner.

NancyJo - I am right there with you on the count down! I am so excited to hug my sailor and meet his GF. I am also looking forward to the much warmer temps (if only for a few days)!

JayDee - hoping you get power back quickly. We have had snow off and on all day today. I hope you have a fantastic visit with your sailor and stay warm!!!

Hi All!! Reading but commenting little, as I play catch up on many other household needs from my hiatus.

Prayers for those in CA and now ice as well it sounds like.

Just a comment on holidays - ours was Halloween!! And we still were missing our eldest and her husband.

BigSky21- and my other Mom friends in PS, just keep encouraging and praying for your Nukes. Thinking about you and your sailors. Certain tests are also more a priority for getting the pass than others, and there are some tough ones with lots of points, at least from what I recall with my ET. One my son wasn't even able to finish because it was so long. They just keep pressing forward.

B'sNukeMom- thanks for the links. I will share with my son, it helps to remind them of other perks they do receive. Especially when goof ups occur and records are lost and a PFA has to be redone. Thoughts for my son today!

Comment by WearsLargeHats on November 15, 2018 at 2:39pm

bigsky21, IIRC they need a certain number of points to graduate, and the "2.5 stay alive" is an average. Tests are mainly used to track progress and identify areas where they need further study. Worst case they'll just up his study hours.

Jana sent a message to "all" nuke mom members.  I went ahead and asked her to post her questions here - hopefully she does.  While you can send a message to "all" members it only goes to your email account - it doesn't show up in your inbox here on N4M.  Better to post your questions on the comment wall so everyone has the opportunity to respond. (Unless it's private and then just send the individual a PM.)

Thanks NancyJo and B'sNukeMom, I know he can do this, it just hurts my heart to hear him sound so down.

Yikes JayDee - just make sure you don't open the fridge at all and everything should be good for a while.  Of course it's going to be hard to cook the lasagna for her with no power!  It must be freezing in your house!!!!  OMG  Wishing her safe travels too ;-D

bigsky21 - like NancyJo said one failed test isn't going to ruin him.  He might get some extra study hours....continue to encourage him and let him know it isn't the end of the world!

NancyJo - it's amazing how many places offer military/veterans discounts.  They just have to remember to ask!

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on November 15, 2018 at 12:44pm

JayDee, terrible! It's early for an ice storm. Prayers for your nukette.

bigsky21, one failed test after many successes won't be the end and the navy wants him to succeed. What you can do is encourage your sailor and see what happens. They provide help for sailors who have struggles and this might not even be the case for him. This may be one lesson he didn't grasp and will figure out. Let's wait and see.
