I have a question, my son will be at OCS during his birthday (he will be about 2 weeks in), is he allowed to receive gifts or Edible Arrangements or what can I do?  I don't want him to think I forgot about him for his birthday. Thanks

i know as a mom you want to make sure he feels loved on his birthday but to be safe i would not have anything delivered to him. do not send him any food as it is contraband till candio week. My son also spent his birthday at OCS  just after the 3rd week. He should be able to call you after RLP ( week 3) and wish him a great birthday as he moves on to the next phase. Best bet is to send him a letter with your love.  Is your son at OCS now? if he is join the facebook group his class. our group had a lot if info that was helpful in answering questions. if not is could send you the files that helped me.

Hi Topdog1p.

My son left today for OCS... what would I search on Facebook to find my sons FB class? He is class #06-16.  Thanks

https://www.facebook.com/OTCNewport/?fref=ts   if the link does not work Officer training command newport this is the fb page for OCS here you will find pictures of our LO's that are posted by OCS. look for navy OCS class 06-16 friends and family. the class page will usually show up on the OTC fb page.  Hugs for you today as your LO leaves on this exciting journey.

myvampress:  Search Facebook for "Navy OCS Class 06-16 Friends & Families" or some such wording.  These are usually closed groups and you have to ask to join, but they are invaluable support along with others whose LO's (Loved Ones) are in the same class as your son.  (Not that we're trying to chase you away from Navy for Moms!)

Also, you can search for and ask to join the Facebook groups for OCS classes 05-16 and 04-16, the classes AHEAD of your son, so you can see what those classes are going through 3 weeks and six weeks ahead of your son's class.

As topdog1p posted, also search Facebook for "OTCNewport" and "like" it.  This is the official page of OCS, and they post training pictures of the current classes.  You might see your son, although it's kind of like Where's Waldo? in the group shots, because the guys all have shaved heads, and are wearing the same colored t-shirts and shorts!!!!!

myvampress,

I know you mean well, but do not bring any attention to your LO while at OCS. After the 9th week at OCS, (if your LO does not "Roll back") you can then send him a special Bday wish in his Candio Box. (you can google Candio Boxes or look them up on Pinterest) If you send something now your LO will not receive it and will pay dearly for it!!!

Trust me your LO does not want you to send anything and will Thank you later for not sending anything!! I'm sure he knows you are thinking of him and you love him, but please don't send anything now!!

My LO had his Bday while at OCS and the best present ever for him was me Not Sending anything!!

Good Luck and Happy Birthday to your LO :)

Quilter:  Good to hear from you again!   How's the new Ensign doing?

Hi M's mom!!! Yes, I will pop in here and there just to see if I can lend some help!!

My Ensign is doing great!! He will soon be moving! He's very excited. This past week he has had a lot of swimming in the entire flight suit and having so many other adventures!! So far so good!! He is still on target to leave on time.  After OCS and "Rolling" I don't count my chickens before they hatch...anything could still happen, and he could end up staying (Rolling) to complete something...but so far, everything they have thrown his way he has finished at the top!! We're so proud of him!!

I look for you on here every once in awhile. I love to see you still helping so many as you did me when I mostly needed someone!! I will always remember your words of encouragement during those dreaded OCS days of Rolling and the waiting at the last minute for the NAMI letter!! LOL It all seems like yesterday!!

My husband and I are looking forward to flying and helping him with his big move!! I have to tell you, when he was issued his Helmet and his leather flight jacket and of course his flight suit.....it was Christmas morning for my LO!!! I will never forget his phone call to me and sending me pictures of him all decked out!!! He is my Maverick!!!!! Top Gun all the way!! LOL

Thank you for asking about my LO!

How is your LO doing??

Quilter,

Also happy to see you again, and so happy that all is going well for your son!!  I remember when my daughter went through all that swim training. Never prayed so much for her!!!!!!

Anna,  Hope all is now well for your daughter and she finally got her wings!

Hi Anna!!!

Yesterday my LO had the one mile in full gear swim!! He did great!! Just a few more weeks at Pensacola and then the move to Corpus! He has place already and he is looking forward to the move!

I'm still praying everyday!!! I believe that will not ever stop!! There is something new to pray for everyday isn't it!!

I hope all is well with your daughter and she is still moving towards her dreams!!

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Veterans Day!!! We're all so proud of our kiddo's aren't we!!!

Take care!! I'm never to far away :)

M's Mom and Quilter,

Thank you so much for asking about my daughter.  It has been a long road but health wise she has finally remained within normal readings for the last three blood tests so we think now she can apply to NAMI to get reinstated.  She had so many setbacks because she had no Navy specialist in Oklahoma and had to deal with difficult civilian doctors!! Don't know yet if she will be able to stay in aviation so we could still use some prayers!!!!!  You're right Quilter, always something to keep us praying for them.  Continued good luck to your son!  Has he gone through SERE yet?

Quilter,  Glad to hear your son is doing so well after all the drama at OCS!    Where will he be moving to?  I assume he has been in P'cola.  Sounds like he is doing great, and you are justifiably proud!

My Lieutenant JG & wife are presently in Monterey, California (tough duty station!) where son is attending the Naval Postgraduate School, taking courses applicable to his next assignment.  They will leave in January for a three-year post in Japan!  They will be living at a base there, and he will be doing *something* intelligence-related.  We don't ask & he doesn't tell!!!!   They are very excited to go, and hope to take lots of excursions throughout Japan.  D-I-L is learning Japanese, and is looking forward to practicing with the locals.  Hopefully, I can drag the reluctant Hubby along to visit them in Japan!

Hubby is OK with traveling in country, though, and we are flying out to CA this week to see the kids before they leave, and before the weather gets too wintery here in the Midwest to brave the 3-hour drive to the airport.  We have previously been to southern CA and to San Fran, but have always wanted to visit the Monterey/ Big Sur area and those beautiful coastal drives.

So, we're going to celebrate an early Thanksgiving/Christmas with them and see the sights.  Son didn't think they would come home for Christmas, because they had plans to go to Death Valley, CA and hike the desert.   Those crazy adventurous kids!   I suppose they might as well do it all while they're still young and childless!   I just hope they don't produce any grandbabies while they are so far away in Japan!
