OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Got my form letter. Woo Hoo.
I had a son graduate from Navy boot camp Sept 1, 2011 so this is my second go around.
The time does not seem to be going by any faster and I am having all the same roller coaster emotions as last time.
I will answer any questions for first timers. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

I forgot to mention that this time it is my daughter in this division. She will be going to Pensacola for A School after PIR. She is IT.
Hope more people are getting their form letters with PIR date and will join us so that we can all share stories and support each other for the next 7 weeks.

Hello, My daughter is in this division, we are from Indiana. After boot camp she will be going to A school in San Antonio, TX to become a corpsman. I'm looking forward to meeting others.

My son just graduated on 4/13 and I graduated from Great Lakes on 12/30/88...LOL...He is now in pensacola for A school too...AM....

My daughter Heather is in BC, ship 07 Div 193, graduation date 6/22/12, Heather is my only child and it's been just me and her, so i am feeling very alone and upset, but i also know that it is the best thing for her and for her future, i couldn't even think about two children going through this, or that it would be any easier the second time around, thank you for posting and getting to meet all the nice people so far on NavyforMoms site. My daughter will also be going to A School in Pensacola, FL. after PIR.

"LemonElephant" mentioned that DIVs 193 and 194 are "brother" divisions. They train together and will do battle stations together. My SR is in 194, and I've only met one other member here from her division. Would you all mind if we buddy up?

Hey Ladies, So glad to see this group was created, I can be totally lost on this website, I think I need to brush up on my computer skills! Anyway, my son Jimmy is headed to Groton,CT after PIR for A school. Hoping and praying we get a phone call next week for Mother's Day! Would love to meet all of you at PIR! BTW, I spoke to his recruiter last week and he said to make sure he isn't a GRAD and GO, which means they leave for A school only hours after PIR. I thought they would at least have one day in between. Does anyone know how far in advance we can find out? And when is it pretty safe to book our flights and hotels?

We stayed at Candlewood Suites last year and loved it. I have already made reservations there again this year. I do not believe it is included in any of the info we recieve with the form letter but it is fairly close to PIR, has a full kitchen with full refrigerator, stove top, microwave and pots pans and dinner ware. It also has a laundry room incase you need to wash clothes too. Continental breakfast in the morning. A small sitting area to eat or play games and we get the room with a sleeper sofa roll away and it gives you more sittin room during the day.
My son after PIR just wanted to go hang out and tell us all about his experience. We had stocked the fridg with Dr. Pepper and sandwich stuff. Also had milk and cookies and cereal and he dove right into a bowl of coco pebbles as soon as he saw them.
There is a Chili's restaraunt just up the road that we at at right after PIR with no wait and they were extremly greatful and kind to our son for his service and a Walmart close by too! I would recommend it to anyone.
Loved that we could go buy all his favorite fooods and junk food to have on hand chips salsa cookies and have some sandwich stuff to make and got to go hang at the hotel after PIR and spend quality time in our new Home away from Home. We ended up snacking most the afternoon and then ordered pizza before returning him after liberty.
I recieved a letter from my daughter today. It was short, she says mostly doing good but she had messed up and just gotten yelled at but did not mention why. Hopefully everyone else is getting letters or will get one by the end of the week and will start to receive them now on a regular basis.
Only 5 more weeks left.
From what I was told last go around they no longer have grad and go. If their A school is in Great Lakes right after PIR they have to go move to their new Barracks and it will take about 3 hours but then will call you and get liberty for the afternoon and possibly for Saturday and Sunday but will have to go back to base each night.
If they are flying out for A school all sailors are put on buses between 2-3 am and taken to the airport and wait for their flights. After my son checked his bags and had his boarding pass he was able to call us and we picked him up from the airport and got to spend saturday with him before he flew out at 7pm that night.
Others who were flying out early or mid morning had family meet them at the airport and spend their last hours thier just visiting with family.
I do not believe they know until they arrive at the airport on Saturday morning what their itenerary will be or what time they leave. It sucks cause it is just so last minute and you really can not make plans ahead of time around thier itenerary. I just plan to stay till Sunday incase my sailor gets to fly out late Saturday afternoon or evening so I can spend it with her. If not and she flys out earlier I will plan to go meet her at the airport early to spend that time with her and then find something touristy to do after she leaves.
Families are normally allowed gate passes to walk with their sailor to their gates and get to go thru security with their families in a special expedited line for the sailors and their families. We got to do this with our son and it was such a nice special touch of honor for our sailor and made us so very proud. Lots of family at the gate with the sailors to board the plans and they board the sailors first for honor and respect and it was hard to let him go. Very emotional for lots of the families but nice to know that our young men and women were now officially sailors and moving forward to A school and the next step of their journey.
I know this is alot of info and a long post but will try to keep sharing my past experiences as I think of them or as other questions are asked. I so miss my daughter just as much as I missed my son but I am so much more at ease knowing that I am familiar with where I am going to stay and all the unknowns from last time and will be glad to share as much as I can with all of you.
