For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
for I will be with you, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie.
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;

I did that for about 1 year or so (2010), before RTC asked on FB for people not to mention dates. We contacted RTC PAO and asked if that applied to us too, and he said: No, we are more concerned with the security on FB. So we kept doing it. But a year later, they asked us not to do it here either. It is not that the dates being exposed are any kind of threat to the SRs...it is more practice of OPSEC. BattleStations is a night of experiencing all that they could encounter when deployed. When deployed, OPSEC states that you cannot disclose details/location until after the fact. So they want all to practice that. That is the only reason. We are allowed to private message the dates. I still keep a schedule from the dates you all give me (received from your SRs). I actually will post the schedule post-BattleStations in the BattleStations discussion group as a reference.

Comment by diannep on October 15, 2013 at 8:53am: Some ladies actually use electric/battery candles if they want to leave them on all night (i.e, during BattleStations which is an overnight drill) and they don't want to burn down the house! Others like to burn them for a little while and pick out their favorite scent so that their house can also smell really nice! :-)

They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition. Craig, who is one of the veterans on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC. The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion Forum. When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins. This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days! Another really sharp coin is the Core Values one in the section where 70 other coins are available--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge. These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family. My Sailor daughter thought hers was "cool"

Comment by diannep on October 14, 2013 at 10:11pm: Truequeensmom/Machel: The burning of the blue candle is traditional in the Navy...it is a reminder that you are thinking about or praying for your sailor...during bootcamp (especially during BattleStations), during school, during deployment. Just a way to keep your sailor close to you.
