Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by cjtizzy55 on June 6, 2017 at 3:15pm: So glad I joined this page! He is very excited to start this part of his life, and so very thankful that he got what he wished for on his "wish list". He is literally following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps. Both were stationed in this area. Vietnam and WWII. He'll see and do soooo much more than I ever will. All while doing something he believes in. Not a bad way to start!

Comment by Bobbi H on June 6, 2017 at 1:42pm: NavyMom2014 is right. The 7 hour time difference is awful! (I am on central time) Also have to watch during time changes. There's changes, but not at the same time as in the states.

Once the ship came back in, he had to live on the ship until he passed his qualifications then he got to move into the barracks. From what I understand, it sounds like a dorm for the most part In his barracks, they can put things on the walls as long as they don't put holes in the walls. .

All he took with him were his uniforms (duh) and few civilian clothes and personal items. Everything else, he has bought over there. He hasn't bought too much though, I don't think, with the exception of the xbox.

To ship stuff to him (care packages and such), flat rate boxes from the post office are the best way to go.

Comment by NavyMom2014 on June 6, 2017 at 12:50pm: Our son has been there since November 2015. He is a GM on the Cook and absolutely loves Rota! We use either WhatsApp, or Facebook to call and love to video with him over Skype. He is on T-Mobile, but I'm not sure how his coverage is over there.

The time difference is something to get used to. By the time I settle down at night and would really like to talk to him, he is in bed. On the flip side, I get a lot of time to talk to him by myself because the kids are usually at school and hubby is at work when he calls.

Advice would be, let him enjoy being there and taking in the world. Our son has been to so many countries in the two patrols they have been on since he reported there. He was just on his first actual leave and went to Portugal for a few days. Needless to say, I am very envious of our boys' travels.

Comment by Bobbi H on June 6, 2017 at 12:38pm: Cjtizzy55, we researched all the carriers. Found t-mobile to be the best for there. It's about $60 a month with taxes. Unlimited internet. Calling is expensive. We use WhatsApp and FaceTime.
