Hi! My fiance sent me a long letter this week and one of the topics was on San Diego. I am trying to figure out the process for him getting a day off once in San Diego so we can go to the court house and get our marriage license. He brought up that his A school is only 66 days, and people keep telling him he has to get married ASAP when he gets out to A school, because apparently he is highly likely to be stationed overseas otherwise. I'm not super worried about it, but he asked me if I knew (I guess because he thinks I read a website and just have all the answers now) when we could get married. And honestly I have no idea on the answer for this one. I wasn't sure how it would work because he only has weekend liberty, and government buildings don't tend to be open at that particular time. My sister will be coming to see me once he is in A school and is hoping to be able to come with us when we sign the papers, but that's about 2 weeks after he arrives. I'm getting concerned because I don't want him to end up somewhere where I'm not allowed to go! Thanks in advance to any answers!

Once he gets to San Diego he will most likely be on hold and not start his classes right away, which would be the ideal time for him to be able to take a week day off. Also, if I remember corrwctly, in San Diego you can apply for your marriage license and get married the same day - theres5no waiting period like in Great Lakes. I also believe they do have some Saturday hours. Your best bet is to just find the website for the San Diego County clerk of courts and find out what the hours are first. But yes, he is correcr that if he is unmarried when he gets his orders (towards the end of A school if he is not continuing to C school) they will be unaccompanied. Whether he is married or not won't really determine whether he gets overseas orders - that depends on what orders need to be filled but there are restrictions for Sailors bringing dependents overseas. First is, they have to be an e-4 or above.
Okay thank you soo so much! I was wondering if he could take off during his expexted hold time, because yeah that would be super ideal.
You're welcome! During holds, they usually can - especially at that base they're pretty lenient. Once classes start, he most likely won't be able to unless he can anticipare a day they might be getting released early, like a test day pr something. Good luck!
