What a GREAT photo! He does look like he is happy with his life choices. You did a wonderful job, Mom. That's what we all strive for, isn't it?: To raise happy, healthy, and independent adults.

We are from a small, rural area and we are all pretty much ready to move on, I think. They met with the Chief (over their recruiting area) again today and they seem very excited about Navy life beyond boot camp. They are learning a lot about their chosen ratings and both seem to be looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I'm concentrating on the logistics right now of making sure they are prepared and have everything ready to go.

Thanks for the insight and encouragement. Also good to hear that there is life for Mom after the turtles swim away.

My twins had shared a room their entire life and pretty much did everything together.  They are very separated now since going into the Navy in 2014.  They talk more to each other than they do to me, which is fine.  I was much more anxious about it than they were but it seems to be fine.

You can do this. Actually being busy will help. I have been so busy it didn't really hit me to feel lonely till this summer. I am good now though. I just had the two. The first one to leave was saying he couldn't wait to get out of the town where we lived. It has a population of just over 800. From the moment he left though he was very homesick till the day he got out and hi tailed it back there even though all their friends were gone. Only the college drop outs and a couple that never went. Those were not their friends. After spending the winter back there he no longer liked it, even though it is a beautiful place. He no longer felt it was home. He moved to Seldovia, AK this summer and seems quite happy so far.

He bought a house there and has a job on a fishing boat.

His twin likes fast cars, the ocean and city life. Plans to go to college somewhere in two years.

One is ST-G and the other is HC...so I will have one in Texas with me for a little while. ST A School is in San Diego though. Thanks for the tip about church during BC! I will definitely pass that on to my guys!

We have had a tumultuous couple of years already (their father left us) so I am facing the daunting task of liquidating the contents of the family home and selling it by myself once they ship out. Definitely have some life-changing challenges and adventures ahead for us. Their older sister is in her fifth year of undergrad and doesn't seem all that motivated to finish her degree and get on with adulthood. Maybe that contributed a little to her brothers' decisions to enlist in the Navy. They REALLY want to learn to be independent and self-reliant.

Hi, Attygirl123,  Sorry this is not a more active group. As the Administrator I get notified when someone posts and will respond.

My twins also had not been apart. They went to BC 6 months apart. That was not a great time for the one at home. He was always the follow the leader twin and was a little lost. In the long run it was great for him. He had to figure out who he is. He has turned out to be someone with a big heart and I am so proud of him. He still is in for another two years. He has 6 to serve.

His twin has served his 4 years and is done. He has moved to Alaska.

As for me. I cried every day all the time for a long time. It does get better. My life completely changed when they left. I got divorced, sold our house and moved across state  go back to college. It turned out well as most of their friends are here for college so my boys came here to visit and they got to see all their friends also.

Have you joined the BC group? Read through this site. There are many stories and pictures of others multiples. Some both served some only one. There are two sets of triplets also. I know one set of twins went together to BC. They figured out if they went to church on Sunday they got to see each other. They had PIR the same day.

Best of luck to you and your twins. Be proud Mom. N4Moms is a great sport system as we all go through similar things.

What are they going to be doing in the Navy? I have one IT and one EM nuke.

My twin sons are leaving in September for BC.  They ship out on the same day, but are expecting to be separated into different divisions during basic.  The real/permanent separation will come after PIR when the head in opposite directions across the country for A Schools.  They have NEVER been apart for more than maybe 48 hours in their lives and they really haven't ever been away from ME for very long.  I'm sure that this is all a very healthy and necessary step in their transition from my boys to two young men.  Still...I am anxious.  (At least one of them will have A school in our home state and be within a 3+ hour drive from me...to help ME to make the transition from Momma to Mom.)

When mine left, it was their first time apart also. One went IT the other Nuke. The IT is the red head that moved to Alaska now, and he was the leader of the two. The other one was the follow the leader twin. It was good they separated so the follower has now had to figure himself out and learn to make his own choices.

Yes, they are identical.  Will be the first that they have split paths, as both went to same college & did same varsity sport.  One is going Surface & one to Flight School.
