I there has been no activity since 2014 - anyone left in this group?

My son is officially a Guam sailor now and aboard the USS Frank Cable.....arrived over the weekend.    He seems to be settled in - for the most part.  The time difference hit him yesterday.....but he is adjusting.

Communication with him has been great - figured out the best (and least expensive) way to communicate with him.  4 days down, 726 to go.  Haha!

My sailor had only been in Guam for 9 days when he celebrated his 21st bday. It was much harder on the mama than him! Lol. That was two years ago. I'm guessing your sailor will find plenty to do since they are not underway. :)

Thanks Charlotte.  40 years ago, I spent my entire 21st birthday at sea on my Destroyer headed for Nam.  My MM was raised listening to how the USN stole my 21st birthday.  Waiting to see where and how his Bday goes.  Thx again

Not Da Mama, Address the card with

First name, last name, rank

USS FRANK CABLE AS40

Operations/ADP

FPO,AP 96657-2615

I find a flat rate box get there quicker then a card or envelope.

Good luck!

Quick question. My MM has been on the Cable for about 4 months now and has never given me a mailing address.  His 21 bday is 3 weeks away.

Can I just address a card to MM3 his name, c/o USS FRANK CABLE AS40, FPO SF .

Think it would get there in time ?

Hi debbiel! My son is also communication challenged! I think the majority are! Lol. Have you joined the USS FRANK CABLE facebook page? They update where they are and post pictures often, usually at each port. Your son needs to add you and his wife to the ombudsman list that way you will get updates via email from the ombudsman which come directly from the Chief. I'm not sure if he can add you once they are underway but you could ask him. Do you have his military email address? And they usually can get on facebook and message, depending on their job. They have been to Thailand and are currently in their second port. My sailor had said they would be gone 5-6 weeks. You should also join the Guam mom N4M page and there is a great Navy Mom and Families FB page. A lot of us have sailors on the Cable! Welcome! Let me know if I can help with anything else. Take care!

Hello everyone.  This is the first time either of my sailors have been assigned to a ship and both sailors are communication challenged.  My son who is assigned to the USS Frank Cable just arrived in November and this is his first deployment.  When I asked him how long he would be gone, he said he could not tell me because of security purposes.  His wife does not know this information either.  Does anyone have an idea how long they will be gone

Hi Charlotte, thanks for the welcome. I don't plan on doing much.  Actually, I'm kinda enjoying the relative peace and quiet after 2 years of the "Nuclear Pipeline" emotional rollercoaster.  I can feel like he is living with his Uncle, on his house boat, in the South Pacific.  No more Pass/fail, living with friends in an off base New York apartment, mandatory study, GPA, sink or swim pressure that all that high intensity nuclear schooling produced.  He's in one place (AS40) and will be there for a while.  Deep breath.

You are right, the FB page is interesting as is the main command website, thanks for the tips.  Thanks again for the welcome, Mrs. NDM and I will be lurking.

Hello Not Da Mama! Welcome to Guam and to the USS FRANK CABLE!! My son has been assigned to the Cable for 2 years. I think your son will enjoy the island! They are underway right now for aprox 5 weeks. My sailor would also be communication challenged! Lol.

A couple other groups you may want to check out is "guam moms" on Navy for Moms, there is more chat on there, and there is a Facebook page GUAM Navy Moms and Family. Not everyone is assigned to the Cable but all our kids are on the other side of the world so we can all relate to each other!

Our son is first generation Navy. We've had very few people in our family join the military. He is IT2. We are so proud of him and his accomplishments. I'm glad you stopped by. I try to keep up but sometimes life gets in the way!
