OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello all. My son recently graduated IT A school and reported to the Ross on Sep 20.

Wow! Today was definitely German food day! What an awesome meal Yvonne made! I love her Sauerbraten (marinated rump roast), Spatzle (German noodle dumplings), Sauerkraut, and Creamed Spinach. Add to that her homemade rye bread, and oh! what a meal!! That was our Sunday dinner today! That was topped off with her German apple crisp and ice cream for dessert. Now I'm ready for a long nap! :)

Kari joined us for worship at church this morning and then for dinner this afternoon. I really think she enjoyed the meal as much as I did!

After we ate we prayed together...especially for her time underway, as well as the advancement exam she will be taking.

I shared a couple of scriptures with her for encouragement that I will share with you here too: check them out.

1 Corinthians 10:13

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Philippians 4:6-9
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. dawn, welcome to the group.  My daughter is no longer on Ross.  It was her time to move on to another ship.  She did serve on Ross for almost  3 yrs.

My son is finishing C-School as an advanced VLS tech on 9/11 and has been assigned to the USS Ross.  He will report to his ship on 9/15.  Just want to get in the loop and meet some other families!

We had a sailor from the Iwo Jima, and three sailors from the USS Ross over for dinner today. We enjoyed having them over last night too for our game night.

On the menu was spaghetti, salad, and home made Italian bread. Crystal brought pineapple and raspberries. Then for dessert it was Apricot Lattice Cake and coffee and tea. Kari helped Yvonne in the kitchen.

Cody challenged me to a game of chess. Now, you have to realize, I haven't played chess in over thirteen years! But it was a good game. Cody almost let me win...NOT! He pounced on my queen the first chance he got after a move I didn't see. :(  After that it was all down hill. Yea, Cody won!

Hi Magpie,  I am doing pretty good.  Lindsay has been able to email pretty regular so far.  She is stationed on a Cruiser. They took her to the Carrier for training!  She is enjoying that as well.  Staying is open berthing with 200 others is quite enlightening for her!  My son was deployed last year for 8 mos.  Enterprise got back in November and has been inactivated.  He is a Nuke so will stay with big E for another 18 mos or so to monitor the reactor.  He is still living in Va so that's only a 5 1/2 hr drive.  Thanks for thinking about me!  I appreciate it.  How is your sailor?

Hi Colleen!  Oh my gosh, that must have been so hard!  I'm SURE she felt the love!  Wow, you will surely miss her.  I'll bet it is much different when they are deployed and you can't hear their voice!  My son is so good about calling.  Next year will be tough, I'm sure!  Is your son still deployed or is he back?  I am hoping you're doing okay!

Hi Magpie,  my daughter does love Mayport. She deployed this past Monday and it will be a long one.  I was able to visit with her before she left. She was manning the rails on the flight deck on her Cruiser so my husband and I got to see her sail off.  It was hard but I wouldn't have missed it.  She kept looking at where we were parked so we walked over to the fence to be right across from her.  I waved and blew kisses, I know she couldn't wave back but I hope she felt the love.  Now to get in deployment mode of emailing and mailing care packages again.  My son was deployed last year so it hasn't been that long.

That is the correct number for the Ombudsman.  She is a wonderful woman.  I've worked with her several times through the FRG and personal issues.  The ship was was in port for about 24 hours and went right back out for their next one.  You're sailor should be able to fill you in on their upcoming schedule soon.
