Another mom and I are trying to get together a Thanksgiving dinner for anyone in Virginia during Thanksgiving. If you are interested, (or your Sailor needs a place to enjoy the holiday).
Please check us out in the events section!!!

Jan, I know it's hard right now with your son away. But all the newness of talking to this girl will wear off. He is going thru alot of changes right now. If you are patient he will come back around. If you push him he may get stuborn and that would not help you and it could make you appear controlling. Guys are difficult to handle as they start to spread their wings. But we want them to be independant so..... Be patient, I know it's hard but he will appreciate you more if you don't come down too hard right now. After all he is not living in your house anymore and that means you are also going thru a period of change were you aren't his only girl anymore.

I am actually from AR, but my son in newly stationed in VA and hopefully i can learn about the area from this board to help him out since he has never been out of the south. He is in C School @ Norfolk waiting for the USS New York to be completed to go to LA to get the ship to take it to New York for the commissioning in Sept 09. I hope to be there for it. I have so much to learn, but since he has met a girl when he came home between changing bases he and i don't talk like we have all his life, so i am on my on learning things. He and i have always be close (being a single parent to him and his 4 siblings for a long while), so i know this phase that will pass, but it is really hard having him not only join the Navy and leave-- but now be on the phone (ALL THE TIME)with a girl i took into my home to help her out cause she had no where to go....and she took a shine to him when he came home on leave and sunk her hook into him in that 12 days...: ( He is a good boy and had never had a girlfriend and is swept away by all the attention and momma is being left behind in all this (boohoo)......So needless to say he is telling her everything about him and the Navy and i am learning nothing i am grateful that i found this board....maybe i can figure things out and the girl cannot continue to go around making momma feel so stupid. Maybe you guys can help me figure out how to get my son to talking to me again. Or tell me i am just being to sensitive...???
