Melissa,

At least youre hearing "about" him. I think it's a guy thing. I left for boot camp right after high school and didn't write or call home for several mnths. My mom got worried and called the Red Cross and they contacted my commanding officer. :(

He called me out of my basic electronics school class and into his office. I really got chewed out! Then he gave me a piece of paper, and envelope and a stamp and made me sit right outside his office and write a letter to my mother. I gave it back to him and he mailed it.

I got a very stern!!! warning that he had better never hear that I didn't write to my mother again! I still didn't write letters any better, but I did make sure I stood in line every weekend at the pay phones with a pocket full of dimes to call home. :)

I'm a new Navy Mom. My son left 2 weeks ago. It's been difficult because I've not heard anything from him. His father has heard from him, I'm divorced, but he hasn't reached me yet. So, I'm silently going nuts waiting! This site has been great in filling in some of the gaps. I've enjoyed reading all of your comments. - Melissa

Hello John and Yvonne ~ My son is currently out "on bussiness" and my daughter in law is on base. She is doing good, I think. Thanks so much for asking about them.

Joslinda,

We just joined the Virginia moms. How are your son and daughter-in-law doing?

Cynthia,
I would also check on the other side of the tunnel from Norfolk. My son in law is stationed at Norfolk and he and my daughter live at Fort Monroe. This is an army base so no civilians can live there but the area she lives in is extremely nice. Check Hampton & Phoebus areas, these are cheaper than Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas. But no matter where you decide...there are always good and bad areas. If you come to Va to visit your daughter...drive around the area, that is the best way.

Lora - I'm in Richmond, too. I live just south of the Short Pump Mall. Where are you? anybody else in Richmond?
