Hey Marika, just wanted to say congratulations on ur Sailor getting his orders. I remember you freaking out about you not being a part of his graduation. I'm glad things are starting to shape up for you. Stay encouraged and remain blessed!

Welcome!  I'm from and currently living in Rockford, IL.  Definitely feel free to message me and ask anything you need.  We moved from Rockford to San Diego last Oct, then we moved back to Rockford when my DH deployed in April.  Now we're on our way back to San Diego next month.  Check out my blog post, My First Navy PCS, for a PCS starting point.  Which base is your DH going to be stationed at?  There are about 5 or 6 in the San Diego area, plus a Marine base.  My DH is at Naval Amphibious Base on Coronado.

PMT stands for preventative medicine technician. Each sailor must fill out a dream sheet at the end of EMT training and if your grades are high and they have an opening they may get it, but not everyone gets another school. Some prefer to work with marines or to go into the fleet. His next school is at the same base in San Antonio, so he will move to another barracks.

Thank you so much for responding to my post.  As you might be able to see from the response that I received from the veteran members, there will be no overnight liberty.  So, the problem sort of resolved itself!  But, thank you so much for the offer.  I hope to meet you on Thursday night!!

Welcome to NavyforMoms.com.  My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012.  He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron.  He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic.  I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.  My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)

If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp.  I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
Welcome Aboard and I wish your Sailor Fair Winds and Following Seas.

I see that you have not received the form letter from your husband; Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit gives info on what you can do.  Only your SR can send you a form letter.  Please do not ask anyone for the password or for a copy of their letter for that would be a violation of OPSEC if they were to give it to you.  Look at the paragraph above for that info and then read the whole document.

I see you joined your PIR group as BQB and Emma suggested; you may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within all of the groups.

I see you asked about "A" School and did not get an answer.  "A" School is the training that those who have a contract for a rating (job/specialty) have after boot camp to prepare them for their rating.  What will your SR's rating (job/specialty) be or is he in the PACT program?  With that info I can tell you where he will go for "A" School or training following PIR and that will help you to plan your trip for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours. (Group names within this comment are clickable links.)
