A little about me:
My son is graduating high school this year and has already been taking the steps to further his career by joining the Navy. I am a nurse now for 24 yrs and he is my only biological child. i have 2 step children that are still in school. I come from a very small community and have strong family background and values.
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was concerned or afraid
The Navy offers opportunities that...
My father was in the Navy and served in Vietnam for 4 yrs. I just know that he lost a lot of good in the service and being away at war make him a different person when he came back. I have a lot to learn yet about what my son wants to do and the job that MEPS has already given him this week. I have learned that I will behind his decisions though no matter what.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

He just got his job from MEPS

So my son called me the other day right after he got out of his meeting at MEPS in Kansas City and his job will be and AO, (Aviation Ordnanceman). I Kind of had to look it up on Military.com to see what all his duties will be and it gave a good description and I later found out today that my father actually had the exact same job along with a cousin of mine too. Kind of Ironic!!

Just wondering if there are anyone mom's out there that have a son/daughter in this division. My son will be graduating on 8/3/12. One month left. I don't know where the best places to get a motel up there or anything. My son told me he has liberty that weekend, so i am happy for that. Just need some information on what will work out the best for our trip out there and stay.

WOOHOO..got my first letter from Trevor yesterday. Was short and bitterly sweet. He is actually homesick. He has NEVER been homesick all the times he has been gone for the summer. In a way makes me feel good that he didn't have it that bad back here in small town Kansas. He wanted to just quit and get on the next plane home and get a full time job and go to college in the fall like most of his friends. But he has made a choice and is going to stick it out. I keep praying he will see it thru. I know it will get better. 2 weeks down..6 more to go.

Well, my son has been now gone for boot camp 2 weeks this Tuesday. Still no mail from him and wasn't expecting any yet...but my family keeps asking if i've heard from him. I think they are more anxious sometimes than i am myself. Although i am quite curious how things are going with him. Can't wait until August to see him again.
