I am praying someone out there has some advice for us. Our son just graduated BC last Friday. And was set to ship out to Nuke school late Friday night. While at BC it was discovered his iron levels were low and his hematocrit…"
"Well, long time no chat. Two weeks ago Nicholas texted me in the morning saying he was going to medical for abdominal pain. When I called him a few hours later, he was being driven to the big base hospital for either appendicitis or…"
"I have a granddaughter who has just been assigned to Pearl harbor. Her Chief suggested she follow through with the baking and pastry chef training in a few months. Did your son do this training, where did he attend and for how long. We can't…"
"Haven't posted on here in so long but hope everyone had a good Christmas. Niko was home and left yesterday to drive back to Norfolk. This was the first time we didn't have to share him with any friends or girls popping over and…"
"Well, my son is on his way home. All in all, I think that this has been a good deployment. 8 months is a long time to be out but his command and the ship itself is a 100% improvement over his last ship. My husband flew to Norfolk…"
"It's hard to believe it's been 3 years! Time has really flown by fast. I just got off the phone with Niko. He is on his way back to the US and they made a stop in Crete. He was so happy that they made it to Greece…"
"Nicholas won't be leaving the Navy entirely. He has a 4X4 contract. Four years active duty and four years in the Reserves. I know two LONG deployments have played a big part in his decision. He's hit some great…"
"Nicholas didn't make 2nd class this time around. he's still on deployment until August. He did message his dad that he gave his intent to separate from the Navy when his enlistment ends next August. It's hard to…"
"Joann, if there wasn't any typos we wouldn't believe it was you doing the typing! :)
Niko called the other night from the ships phone. I'm guessing they were close to shore or a port. He sounded really good, said work was…"
"Yep, theft is rampant in the Navy especially underway. Niko had underwear stolen on his last ship, his dress blues, and an I Pod. What got me was his dress blues. He's only 5'7" and a 28" waist so not many…"
"We did that for Nicholas when he left Hawaii. I felt a little better following him out to Norfolk.
Janna- I'm glad he will not be going out on deployment so soon after getting married which is what happened to me. We got married in…"
"cherylhubb- I can't tell you anything about the Chaffee but I can give you some info on Pearl Harbor/Hickham. Honolulu is great but he needs to make sure that when he goes out in town, he goes with a group. The base is big but there…"
"Thanks, ladies for the support. I know you all know how hard the deployment thing is but I do feel much better this time and Nicholas had a much different outlook on leaving as well. He was much better prepared and his new ship is better…"
Navy veteran from 1988-1993. Former Hospital Corpsman. Mom of 3 boys, hospice nurse, married to "a nice Greek boy" for 23 years, and is also a Navy veteran (AW3). My oldest son graduated boot camp on 8/27/10 and is now stationed on the USS Gonzales in Norfolk, Virginia. He is a 3rd class petty officer. We are very proud of him!
I am here to support or represent my:
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
self control, reliance, team work.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
I have a granddaughter who has just been assigned to Pearl harbor. Her Chief suggested she follow through with the baking and pastry chef training in a few months. Did your son do this training, where did he attend and for how long. We can't seem to find any info on these advanced programs. What does the"C" stand for.
My son's friend is being separated from the Navy for a similar diagnosis as your son. Please let me know what other resources are available to him so he can fight to stay in. Thanks for your help. I sent you a friend request so we could do private messages about his situation.
Hi, I found you from the Ship 5 group...I will send you a friend request since my profile is set to private...Anyway my daughter just called yesterday & said she is being medically discharged due to ovarian cysts..she had this problem in the past...Just wondering if it is worth getting a 2nd opinion??? She is in week 4 of bootcamp. Any advice or direction you can offer would be extremely helpful! Thank so much....I'm just not ready to join Ship 5 group, yet!!! Or give up on her dream :)
Mike finally texted me. Lol....He'd rather text me details than call! I didn't want to post anything about the suicide because others read it, but here's what he had heard. The suicide happened next to their building. The guy apparently used his boot shoe laces and hung himself in the bathroom shower. First thing I thought of was that scene from the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman". Shannong had mentioned that her dtr had said something about drugs, but how can a kid get into the navy with all the drug screening before and during bootcamp?? Oh well....either way it's so sad. The reason I was overly concerned was our boy told us that during laser shooting practice some kid had said he was considering suicide. Weeks later during one of our son's standing watch shift the police came and he had to announce over the intercom for all watch to turnover their pretend ( but VERY real looking)weapons due to police were coming in. Guess that kid was asmoed back a week according to what he heard. So hope THAT kid doesn't go forward to any of the A schools!!! Sad and very scary.
