Voicemail before leaving for BC

Before BC I asked my son to leave me a voicemail on my cellphone so that I could hear his voice at times when I really needed too. His message although personal has been an incredible source of strength at nights when I'm longing to go into his room to give him a hug and say goodnight. Part of his message that I would like to share with everyone are the following words:

"Just remember mom, you will be ok and I will be ok. We may not be together physically, but our bond is stronger…

Newport OCS Class 05-13

Is anyone else out there have a child in this class? My daughter has been at OCS for a week and a half and I have received two phone calls and one email from her. I am just starting to send her mail - and using the address provided on the website. Wanted to make sure you all knew there was a Facebook page titled "Officer Training Command Newport" and many, many pix. I have already seen several of my daughter. Missing her so much but trying to be strong and looking forward to her graduation…

Proud and Sad Grandma

I was oh so proud to see my grandson in his PIR. He appears to have grown up a lot and is determined to be a good sailor. I am happy for him. Yet I was sad for another grandson who so very much wanted to join the Navy. My new sailor is even disappointed that his cousin was denied admission, saying he would have made a great sailor. He was in High School Navy ROTC for three years and did very well. He scored high on the written test, but according to the recruiter(s) the medical people ( and…

Received his box today

I received our sons box today. I would be lying if I said I didn't cry. I'm so proud of him but miss him terribly. I'm still waiting for the letter that contains his address and now wonder if I dare send all the letters I wrote and am writing all at the same time. I've never looked forward to a letter so much in my entire life and it IS taking for ever. Patience is a virtue, this I know.

Thanksgiving

Well Thanksgiving is just around the corner. My son is now in Va. He is set to fly to Fresno Ca on the 21st of November. Lemoore will be his home base. With him getting there the day before turkey day, does anyone know if he will be able to come home for the holiday. We live only 90  miles from there, so we would love to pick him up. I m new at this so any help is good help. Thank you to you all. And god bless.

Still waiting for Address

Still waiting for our son's address, it's funny how a week can drag by. We were so happy and surprised to receive an unexpected phone call from him on Sunday the 28th. He has joined the band and is first chair saxophone. He said he was in Division 900 and would Graduate Dec. 21st! Yay, what a wonderful Christmas Present! I have a stack of letters waiting to be sent and tons of cards from all his friends and family. I wonder what he actually looks like with a bald head and at times the mere…

Getting His Sea Legs

I've taken a long hiatus from NavyForMoms; I hope all are doing well. Sean was home for a magical week in September after graduating from A School and driving from Pensacola to Iowa. He spent a couple of days with two brothers in Iowa City and even got to go to a University of Iowa football game (the boys LOVE their football). Then on to Des Moines. He and I had dinner together each night while he was at home. He volunteered for a day at the recruiting station while here, as well as visiting… Continue

He's a SAILOR!!!

One week ago today, we were finishing up our time with our son. God is good!!! Of course, that goes without saying! It is amazing how much it takes for me to believe He has our best interests in mind. When I could finally relax and realize He had it all together, everything fell beautifully into place.

Last Wednesday, our third child was in the process of getting his driver's license. My husband had some questions about our insurance, so he and I had been calling each other back and…

Sons farewell to bootcamp

We just returned home from watching our son take his final oath and leave for 8 weeks of boot camp. We were extremely proud of him and the next time we see him he will be in full dress uniform and at graduation. I am now just waiting for the "box" and his address. This will be the longest time period that I have gone not talking to our son ever and it is going to very difficult but I am just praying that everything goes well and before long he will be in his "a" school and we can get back to a… Continue

Flags

Here is some info on Flags and pennants.

You can earn the drill flag, athletic flag, academic flag, and inspection flag; all the scores are added up for an average. Then if they score high enough they get a Battle E flag. If you score even higher still you get the CNO flag. That one's really hard to get.

When my son graduated, his division and one other division got the Battle E, and that other div also got the CNO...and that was out of 7, so it's tough.

Sometimes…

The Only Girl!

Our daughter just checked into OCS at Newport this past Sunday as a nupoc and we did not hear from her until this evening - apparently she meets her Drill Instructor in the morning - but we had a very bad connection and we couldn't hear much except that she is the ONLY girl in her class!! Because of this, she has a room to herself but she sounded disappointed - I think that it surprised her that there were no other girls and of course, I am a little worried that she doesn't have anyone to…
