Our recruiter, who also checked with his Chief, told us to have our sons permanent retainer removed (you know the one they get after braces). He saw the Navy Dentist at boot camp and come to find out, he did not have to have it removed. I looked this question up before we had it removed and I could not find anything. OH well, once he gets to A school he can have one put back in- provided my son remembrs to do just that (and finds the time). How can we spread… Continue

Just wondering if there are anyone mom's out there that have a son/daughter in this division. My son will be graduating on 8/3/12. One month left. I don't know where the best places to get a motel up there or anything. My son told me he has liberty that weekend, so i am happy for that. Just need some information on what will work out the best for our trip out there and stay.

First a letter and then a call. It's great to get information.
He sounded good in both. That doesn't mean it's a walk in the park, though. I learned a lot!
- it took nearly two weeks for their division to get to full strength, so he was in P-days until June 11.
- they could write on Sunday, June 17 for the first time
- he's starboard watch section leader
- he passed his swimming test and first physical assessment
- there is lots of studying and watch… Continue

Time is passing.
18 days since my son was sworn in and headed to Great Lakes. He'd waited since October. He was SO excited. He was like a race horse at the starting line pawing the ground ready to get going.
Now that he is in the midst of his training I wonder, is it only me who is so excited and hopeful about what he will discover about Navy life? Is still sharing the excitement.
What is he doing now? Has he made friends?
Can't wait for the first… Continue

Was the voice mail message left to me from my step son on Tuesday, January 11th. Oh how I hated that I missed that call, but the voice mail he left me made my heart smile. “Ms. Paulie, I passed my test! I’m gonna be a NUKE” my step son excitingly yells into my voice mail. “Call me back, I might miss your call I’m going to be helping my grandparents. I love you Ms. Paulie! THANK YOU for everything you’ve done for me!” (A voice mail message I will not delete from my… Continue

My SR is currently at RTC. I'm so proud of her decision to join the Navy, it's hard to put into words. What's even more difficult to express is the shock when I found out she was even interested. My SR is the middle of three children. She has a big sister and a little brother. She always felt as if her siblings were loved more than she was, even though that couldn't be further from the truth. When she was a toddler, her peditrician actually diagnosed her with "Middle Child Syndrome." … Continue

No, I was not as sad as I look in this photo, I promise!!
Yesterday was the big day. My son did his final swearing-inand boarded the plane to Great Lakes.
He was able to text me and even called from the airport .And then at 12:32 I got "the 3 second" call.
He sounded strong, wide-awake (I'll bet!) and the teeniest bit nervous. I said a few encouraging…

Look at that smile! That's my sailor-to-be at the helm

Actually, wasn't that yesterday?
He leaves for his recruiter's office Sunday afternoon
then on to Great Lakes for boot camp.
He is 18.
