New to Divorce

The break-up of a marriage is one of the most difficult things to endure. It is the end of a union between two people who once came together in love to build a future around each other’s dreams, hopes, and expectations. There are many reasons for a divorce, including extramarital affairs, financial issues, domestic abuse, the loss of a child, and irreconcilable differences between two people who have simply grown apart. Divorce is never easy, and it’s important to…

Awaiting my 30 second scripted "I am fine" call

As I sit here and reflect on the past few days with my daughter, I cannot help but feel emotional. I only cried a few tears after we said our goodbye's following the swearing in ceremony at MEPS. I was fortunate she could still text and talk when she arrived at O'Hare and was resting at the USO. She said she was scared, I reassured her so were all of the other recruits. What she was feeling was completely normal given her circumstance.

I am incredibly proud to be her mother. Even…

Cancer. Mom

Hello I am new here and have a special kind of dilemma going on. It looks like my son will be going to RTC Great Lakes in March if things remain on track. Since my son's freshman year in high school we have been dealing with my diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. After quite a few surgeries and some nasty chemo I was in remission for almost 5 years..yay! We moved on with our lives and my son moved onto normal college life. This year he would be considered soph with some jr credits. So while… Continue

What happened to my baby, and who is this man?

This was without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm a single mom, and my child has always been my son first, but he's my best friend second. We spent a lot of time together; we both have the same, kind of strange, sense of humor. We both love the same kind of movies, and we watched them together... A lot.

Michael joined the Navy while he was still in High school, so I barely had a chance to get used to the idea, and then he was off to Bootcamp.

He tells me things that… Continue

22 year old single mom of a 7 month old son

Right now I wanna better my life and my son's future. I'm currently a single mom and i"m thinking about joining the military. I looked into several branches and only two told my I can join as a single parent. I can either join the Navy Reserves or the National Gaurd. The Navy told me I have to have a good family care plan for my son. I talked to my dad and he told me he can help take care of him. Can anyone please give me advice I am at a crossroads right now.

Saying Goodbye to my Son as he leaves for Bootcamp

I hugged my "little boy" goodbye

He hugged me back and said, "Mom, don't cry."

I couldn't bare to walk away

I didn't let myself look back that day

His car was still parked in the drive at home

In his room were his keys and treasured cell phone

There sat his abandoned x-box and video games

Without him here nothing will be the same

No yelling for him to turn the "music" down

His hundreds of CD's are just sitting…

The Humorous Side Continues:Acronyms - New Moms BE PREPARED!!!

One thing about being on a site like this is that you get to speak with people who are in all different stages of their exposure to the Navy experience. My first two weeks with Chris away at boot camp were difficult at points emotionally. The first letter was upsetting and I waited and prayed that the next would be at least somewhat better. HOORAY! It came yesterday - written at the end of day 14 and my boy was feeling markedly different. He apologized for the negativity in his first letter and… Continue

** Happy Mom's Day- to all the N4M's! :)**

Dearest Mom:

Happy Mom’s Day! <-- It’s YOUR day today : )

I know we are using that tag line in our videos: “You give them the values, we give them the opportunity”. And I was thinking …that one of the best parts of this site! I love reading these values. Some of values that you practice and talk about… my own mother passes down to me! It’s amazing how some mom-isms are really universal from Main to California and North Dakota to Texas. It doesn’t matter status,… Continue
