New to Divorce

The break-up of a marriage is one of the most difficult things to endure. It is the end of a union between two people who once came together in love to build a future around each other’s dreams, hopes, and expectations. There are many reasons for a divorce, including extramarital affairs, financial issues, domestic abuse, the loss of a child, and irreconcilable differences between two people who have simply grown apart. Divorce is never easy, and it’s important to…

Awaiting my 30 second scripted "I am fine" call

As I sit here and reflect on the past few days with my daughter, I cannot help but feel emotional. I only cried a few tears after we said our goodbye's following the swearing in ceremony at MEPS. I was fortunate she could still text and talk when she arrived at O'Hare and was resting at the USO. She said she was scared, I reassured her so were all of the other recruits. What she was feeling was completely normal given her circumstance.

I am incredibly proud to be her mother. Even…

Helping my brother with his Pay questions

My name is Justin and I have been in the Navy for 9 years. My brother recently swore in and while answering his pay questions, I realized how new sailors and their families can have little knowledge of all the different pays and benefits. I have created a website which is meant to help out my fellow Sailors (I don't advertise or accept pay of any kind) and is designed as a one stop shop for all current Navy pay information, explains and links to Navy related programs, benefits, laws, and… Continue

letters from my love

I got more letters from my love today, 3 to be exact! He got his orders for “A” school. He got the rate of “FC” or Fire Controlman, he had wanted “ET” but said this will do. Didn’t say if they were “accompanied” orders… silly. I will find out when I get up there I guess. On the 25th he said they took Test 2 and out of 160…

letters from my love

Jan 13, 2011

“Today things went well. We did some CBT (computer based training) and its pretty boring. I am still trying to find other ways of getting a hold of you and ITS NOT WORKING!!! We had a mock MCA-WTI inspection, and if it was the real thing I would have gotten a 5.0! I am trying my hardest for Honor Grad. I am trying to make everyone at home proud of the new Navy member of the family. Come to find out dad was right, because of my…

Jan 9, 2011

“Well today after the Holiday Routine we had a Divisional beat down. These kids just don’t want to listen to the recruit chain of command, and they don’t know how to act. Plus most of the recruit chain of command can’t even follow their own orders. What a joke! Then add in the fact that these kids cant even figure out how to march in columns of 3 or 6.…

Jan 2. 2011 - He didn’t have much to say today

“We are losing 2 shipmates, one for writing letters to another recruit during church and another for keeping her cell phone. I am doing what I am told to do, no more, no less. they are not sending me back. We now do armed watches. I have lost track of the what day it is, and if I told you the chatter was bad during the day, its worse at…

The best 15 min of my life!

So no phone call yesterday…. pretty much ruined my day! Today even though I didn’t really want to I got up and went to church. It was nice. After church we had lunch, and I left to go to walmart… I had to get vinegar and baking soda to clean my VERY burnt pan!

I was wondering around just looking at stuff and my phone rang…. ILLINOIS!!!!! “Hello!! TIM??” When I heard him say “Hi Hun, its me! I’ve got 15 min” I burst…
