You are right to not want to sound unappreciative. I post the following as part of a comment in a discussion about the delayed entry program. You might find it interesting.

1. About 23% of young adults in the USA (those under 25) are unemployed. Your son is not going to be one of them.

2. About 36% of those between 18 and 31 are living at home with parents. Your son is not going to be one of them.

3. Half of the college students received support from parents with tuition, books and housing. You son will not have to be one of them because he'll have the GI Bill.

4. There are 317,000+ enlisted individuals in the US Navy. With any luck, your son will go thru Boot Camp and become on these elite individuals. In short, he about to begin a Navy career filled with endless opportunities, generous benefits and the chance to make a difference in the world.

Unless you screw up royally and get separated at boot camp, you are going to have a job for the next 5/6 years. You are going to get educational opportunities. You are going to see the world and meet up with a bunch of young men & women going places.  So you are a little bit afraid of the unknown. That is fine. You'll learn. You'll handle it. And of course, you'll make a mistake here and there - you figure out what you did wrong, you regroup and you press on.  But the first thing to do is get an attitude adjustment. Go out and conquer the world. Go girl. You can do it.
