Today as I searched for Going-Away Invitations for our son's departure to Boot Camp, I came across entries on the Navy for Moms site that was filled with ideas for just this kind of party. Now I'm excited and have something to look forward to as I plan our son's party. Great ideas from journals with thoughts and photos from those attending to emails that I would paste in a journal.

If anyone has any other ideas that made their son's or daughter's party memorable, please let me know.

Thank you and blessings to all of you with loved ones serving our country.

I had post cards and had everyone write a quick note and i mailed them to my daughter in bootcamp... I also had a journal that everyone wrote her a message to read before she left to RTC. I bought all decorations at partycity.com

Thank you for your helpful ideas. Here's the website that had more ideas about going-away parties. It's an old one from Navy for Moms--http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/1971797:Topic:311069. The first comments were posted in 2008 and there were some additional ones in 2011. I'm going to partycity.com now!

Good to meet you both, here. Looking forward to the support of all of you great Moms!

There's a great site called pinterest.com that has ideas and posts on everything under the sun! I am on it daily getting ideas for parties, weddings, etc. check it out! Just attended a going away party for my friends son into the Army. They had rubber bracelets made in camo colors that had his name on them and gave them to everyone to remind them of him.

I'm getting excited about our son's party. We just created the invitations and Hallmark is printing them. I'll print pictures later. We also ordered some wristbands for the guests~the say "JORDAN-US Navy 2012 Keep in your prayers." I have several decorations, will be picking up a journal and ordering balloons soon. It's good to get lost in this planning. It keeps me from thinking about him leaving in July!

Just posted pictures of Jordan's party on my main page. Stop by and see them! It was a great celebration!
