THEY ARE ALL WINNERS.

A couple of cool facts about the Army Navy game --

This is the longest running football rivalry in the US - it's been ongoing for 120 years.

The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society has it's roots (and early funding) in this game, when the two branches used the proceeds from the ticket sales to provide assistance for war widows and orphans.

It is traditionally played in Philly because it is considered "neutral territory" aprox. halfway between the two acadamies.

Even though it has been ongoing for 120 years, this is not the 120th game - there have been 10 times in history that the game was not played.

The games that weren't played were --

1909 when the Army cancelled their entire season due to the death of one of the cadets in a game against Princeton.

1917 and 1918, it was cancelled at the request of the War Department due to WWI.

1928 and 1929 when the two teams couldn't agree on player eligibility.

And the longest running gap in the games - 1894 - 1898 when, by order of the President, both teams were ordered to not be allowed to play any away games (they could still play home games, but it prevented them from playing each other, since they were both "grounded" so to speak...). The reason for this was because, after the Navy win in 1893, an argument broke out between a Rear Admiral and a Brigadier General, resulting in them almost fighting a duel. (I could be wrong, but I believe this is the only time college football rivalry has ever had direct Presidential intervention due to dueling by senior military officials! lol - yes, some people take this that seriously ;-) )

Thanks for the side notes. It does make this very interesting. We were there in '07 (Army side - we had a cadet at the time). The march ons from both the academies is very impressive.  Our sailor never made it to an Army/Navy game. Here is a photo of a Army cadet tackling the Navy mascot who got just a tad obnoxious who had wondered too far over to the Army side while waving a Navy flag.
