Time is passing.

18 days since my son was sworn in and headed to Great Lakes. He'd waited since October. He was SO excited. He was like a race horse at the starting line pawing the ground ready to get going.

Now that he is in the midst of his training I wonder, is it only me who is so excited and hopeful about what he will discover about Navy life? Is still sharing the excitement.

What is he doing now? Has he made friends?

Can't wait for the first "real" letter or phone call.

My grandson, who I have raised since birth, left for Great Lakes last Wed. 13th of June. I have worried and wondered how he is. How soon will he be able to get mail out? He called me when he arrived and told me he was fine but wouldn't be able to call again for 3 weeks. For me that seems like "forever"  How do the rest off ya'll be so patient?

My son left May 29 so I've had a little more time to adjust. I keep thinking about what my son's recruiter told us, "No news is good news." So, as much as I'd like to get some information, the fact that I've heard nothing is good. I keep writing and following http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433. Even though I'm not positive what week and day they are on, I imagine I've calculated it pretty well.

I imagine he's loving what he's learning and I know it is so good for him. Plus, he was so excited and ready to get this show on the road. I'm thrilled for him and the opportunities he will have.

You'll get through it. It should get easier.

My son left May 15th for Great Lakes have only got one letter from him and last Friday he actually called us. If you haven't got  your second phone call yet hang in there it's like a drink of water on a hot day. So good to hear from him. His spirits were up and can't wait to see us.

Is it only the mom's with positive kids on here or what?? It seems like everyone who has heard from their Recruit says they love it, their spirits are up, they're making friends. Do you know how encouraging that is?? I can't WAIT to hear (or read) the same great news.

His clothes and personal things came in mail today....totally lost it. When do we get an address to write? Or must we wait for that first letter from them? Can I check with his recruiter to get info and address?

Comment by OmahaRudy on June 20, 2012 at 10:13am

I think the letter came at least a week after the box. His recruiter should know his address, though -- and PIR date. Call. Just getting that piece of information was great.
