My son leaves for BC in just a matter of days...I'm not sure I can really actually describe what I'm feeling.  One moment I'm perfectly fine, the next I'm sobbing, the next I'm feeling worried about something stupid and then I'm perfectly fine again. I feel like some alien from some whacked out emotional planet came and occupied my body.  I am certainly not my normal happy-go-lucky, roll with whatever happens, kind of person right now.  It's so hard to have to hide my emotions at times.  I think I do pretty good around my son, but we also talked about my "moments" so he understands that I'm not truly sad, but mostly proud.

I'm SUPER excited for my son and he is so ready to go.  How can I not be excited for him???  He is getting a chance to do something GREAT for our country and he is learning a trade that he can use in the future and he is learning how to be a contributing member of society and able to handle his life on his own.  My husband has been my rock all along because he keeps reassuring me that our duty as parents was to prepare our kids for heading out into the world and giving them the abilities to be a grown up.  We have done our job and now we get to see how they carry on without our assistance. It definitely helps me to think of it that way.

I know the path ahead will not be easy, but with the help of God, my family and my wonderful Navy sisters...we will get through this.  I just pray that the Lord will comfort my soul when I miss him and that he will protect my son through all that lies ahead for him.  Onward into the future...let the ADVENTURE begin!

Sierrascrapper - wow, can't believe the time is here now for your son to leave - I remember when you joined N4M!  Your feelings are normal....there will be good days and not so good days but you'll get through it.  Focus on the positive and remember this is what your son wants!  As soon as he leaves start writing those letters so you can mail them when you get his address (don't forget to number them on the outside!).  You've done your research and you are prepared - now it's up to your son.  Be his biggest chearleader - count Friday's and soon you will be at PIR! HOOYAH!  Good luck to your SR.  {{{NMH}}}

Thank you so much BsNukeMom.  Your thoughts mean so very much to me.  I am excited and scared and anxious and happy and proud and everything else in between.  I have learned so much from so many of you that I feel like I am ready for this.  I am looking forward to writing him letters and getting the box and getting his Form Letter and PIR. Thank you for your support!  I know I will survive with GREAT Navy Moms like you.

I can't imagine what this day is like for you...my day to take my son is tomorrow. Maybe being a day apart our sons will meet. I take comfort in knowing that my son's friends will now be young men with honor, integrity and courage...or they wouldn't be going down this same path as him. I hope God gives strength and encouragement thru these next few days and soothes your heart cause I know mine is aching even though I'm so very proud of mine!

I have pre-warned everyone at work and home that I may cry for no reason. I no that feeling of feeling fine one moment and breaking down the next.

Well today was my day.  He's gone.   I couldn't be any prouder.  But I too am a crazy person.  I cried from 7 am till about 2pm straight, now it comes and goes. I am so proud of him and want nothing more but for him to have a great adventure!  I've got my case of wine "just in case", so now we wait!  Godspeed...

Hey Lanie, merlot or cabernet? I'll be right over. Don't shed any tears for either of my sons anymore but I'll do anything to sympathize with another Navy mom. :)

Hugs to all of you. I'm holding up somehow some way. Tomorrow will be harder I already know. But we have all prepared for this day. We have raised FINE young men and women and now they get to show how wonderful they are! I think I'm going to need some wine tomorrow myself. The long drive back home will more difficult than on the way here.

Sierrascrapper, are you dropping your son off at Moffet?

Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on July 1, 2014 at 5:19pm
No he flew out of Boise as Northern Nevada is part of the Portland recruiting district. He flew out just a little bit ago. Long day ahead of us with a 7hr drive back home and then waiting for his call tonight.
