Hello N4M Members!

When I first joined you as admin of this community, it took me awhile to figure out some of the Navy lingo that I saw all over the site. DEP? PIR? What are these ladies talking about? :)

I know that many of you have had the same questions, so to help you out we’ve developed a new tool just for you – NAVY Speak, a NAVYForMoms.com acronym widget! It’s located at the column on the right where you can access it whenever you come across a Navy term (or acronym) that you’re not familiar with. We’ve created a quick intro video that walks you through the steps (it’s super easy to use). While it doesn’t include every term that might come to mind, it is a great starting point to get you acquainted with Navy speak!

I hope this comes in handy and would love to hear your feedback once you’ve given it a few tries!

Elle

P.S. Feel free to tease me about the video :)

I like this, what if an acronym is not listed, who would we contact to have the item added

thanks this is great. My daughter is only in boot camp a little over three weeks now and writes in Navyese. This will certainly help a lot

I agree...I like it. But I put in a few that had come up in the past and they were not there. How can we get items added to the database? One thing I think should be added for sure are the acronyms for the various rates. People are always asking "what does your child do?" and the only ones people tend to know are the ones their child does! To my knowledge, the only one that is obvious is Corpsman. This is a great idea!! Thanks a lot!

I am extremely new to being a Navy mom. My son is deffered enlisted and does not ship out to boot camp until July 17, 2009. I have yet to learn any of the Navy lingo so this will be a big help. Thank You!!!

This will help. I grew up Navy and the lingo has change since then and I get lost trying to keep up. Even the terms they use for the jobs doesn't always makes sence either and this way when we do get to talk to the either by phone or the internet we dont have to waste what little time they have explaining the lingo

Shauna, you mean he's DEP and will s/o to BC in GL? lol. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

My son left for boot camp on Monday.....so I really have no idea about lingo or anything else for that matter!

Thanks a bunch! I could have used this is September but it will be very helpful to new people. My son just surprised me today, he flew in for 4 days! A total surprise and I am so happy to see him, Go Navy!
