My daughter was scheduled to graduate Dec 13, 2013. I got a call the 11th telling us she would not graduate because she failed the running test. (Thankfully we had planned on driving) That is all the information she gave us over the phone. We read and researched about what happens from this point forward. Then she calls on the 19th to tell us her new ship and division and what steps she is taking to pass and nothing she tells us matches with what her father and I had read about. She was supposed to start A school the 6th of January in Charleston, SC. I've called the local recruiters and i've called the PAO office at the RTC (still haven't spoken to a live person) to get information as to what happens if she doesn't pass before Dec 30th (the deadline for her to get to Nuke A school) and I guess I'm most upset about the fact that I did not get a phone call on Christmas. I understand that the phone privileges have been taken away until their status changes, but no call on Christmas? I will try again on Monday to call and get answers.but if anyone has ideas I could use some help.

I would go with what she is telling you not what you read or hear.

You will just have to wait on your next call from her. Hopefully she passes the run tomorrow, the next chance to do so, and then has BST this week and flies out Saturday with others heading to SC. Those in FIT can earn calls, but they often don't get to call until their status changes--meaning that she passes the run or perhaps that she is a Sailor. See the info in Battle Stations-21 (BST).

There were many recruits who did not make a call on Christmas. Even with 2 TG's being adopted for Christmas and the reduced number of recruits at the RTC due to the holiday stand-down for recruiting activities, there were still too many recruits for every recruit to be able to get even a few minutes at one of the 100 to 120 phones in the two phone banks during the less than 12 hours available for calls on Christmas Day.

What is her new ship/division?

I'd also trust what she tells you.  We didn't get a call over Christmas either and we have a PIR of 1-24.  I'm scared of the timeline too since Battle stations for my son seem so close to PIR!

If she doesn't pass before her scheduled contract date, then she will be given a deadline to pass and receive a new contract, which may be for the same "A" School or for a different one or for one of the PACT programs, or be separated.

Battle Stations are always 2 or 3 days prior to graduation.  Nobody should give you any information other than your recruit.  You would not want anyone being able to call and saying they are you and getting information,, plus being over 18 that are not supposed to release anything.  Trust in what your SR told you and they will call when their status changes.

LoriM, I respectfully disagree with you. BST can be up to 10 days before PIR at times, but is usually within a week of PIR. See Battle Stations-21 (BST).  I do, however, agree with the rest of your comment.

TanyaD's recruit most likely will not call again until she passes BST and is a Sailor or is moved to SEPS due to not passing the run before the deadline she has been given or will be given, but she may be able to call as a morale booster.

I agree with you lemonelephant that it can be up to 10 days prior,, but the normal is usually the Tuesday or Wednesday prior to PIR.

Comment by lemonelephant on January 3, 2014 at 10:29pm

LoriM. no, the usual is not Tuesday or Wednesday before PIR. One to four divisions can have BST at one time, so that means that if the maximum number of divisions (4) has BST each night that a TG with 11 divisions would have to have at least 3 nights of BST, and since there is typically a BST run the night before PIR to give recruits one more chance to have BST before PIR, that means that at least one division will have BST the night before the previous week's PIR (8 days before their own PIR) when there is one that week.

Thanks for all the feedback, I guess I am/was nervous about the fact that since she did not get to participate in the PIR with her original division (ship 14/ 040) on the 13th of Dec would she still be able to make it to her A school which is scheduled to start Jan 6th. The real ISSUE is that she still has not passed her PFA. I have received 2 letters now since Dec 30th (actually within the last 2 days) Apparently there were some days that she wasn't allowed to run? and then the last time she ran she was unable to finish her test due to an unfortunate accident to another recruit on the track.  I  have been given her new ship/division and address so I can send letters directly to her now. I was just being a worry wort because I know my daughter's tendencies when things don't go as planned and I hated not knowing what was going through her mind. All I can do is wait and pray she snaps out of it and runs her little 5ft legs off under the time limit.

Her division number will let you know if her time was off by less than a minute (Ship 4 Div 2347) or more than a minute (Ship 4 Div 2444).
