I grew up in WI, U of MN undergrad and OU for Law School - came to OK not knowing anyone here and had never been here prior - random choice for school!! Have been here since '77 and after law school pretty much lived in Edmond - Oak Tree. Met hubby in law school.
Alana and Lane graduated from Edmond North. Alana, as you know, is in med school, and Lane is a soph at OU - chem major (pre-med) and lives in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house. He could elect the Navy route too as a means of paying for med school - plus his girlfriend is pre-med and has shown an interest in Alana's Navy scholarship.
Do you ever get on the chat page? I tend to read the chat to learn about the Navy, rather than actively "chat". Have "met" a few other Okies on the chat and could cross paths with Lori in Tulsa one day - she has 2 sons and a daughter-in-law in the Navy.
Just got back from lunch with Alana. And, we were talking about you! She said in summer, when back from Off. Dev. School, maybe she can get some of the other sailors from med school together to visit you - she thought with your son so far away, you might like to visit with other Navy members his age group. I know one lives local - Bethany area. That sailor's family "took Alana in" for Thanksgiving since Mark and I were out of town.
Welcome to the Tinker Group. Told my daughter (sailor) of your offer - she said she could fill out the table with other sailors in med school at OU!! Alana is Navy Med in med school with a number of other "sailors" - 2 from the Naval Academy. I'm not a seasoned Navy mom, but like you, joined this group to be of help to sailors at Tinker and their moms at a distance.
Whoa...it sure has been a while since I've been on N4M!! Yeah, we are all moved and settled, then Gabe came home on a surprise leave! He literally called us from his connecting airport and said he needed to be picked up in two hours. He is now in Little Creek for music training. Yep, he got switched to Navy vocalist. He'll be there for 6 months then will choose a band. He thinks he wants to go to Japan, but we'll see. How is Stu doing? Do you hear from him often? Hope you and all your loved ones are well!!
Hey Patti...I do remember you. I hope your daughter didn't get into too much trouble. Mike's been gone for 8 days. I got to talk to him Sunday and he's doing really well. Thank you so much for contacting me. I'm really excited about going to GL to see Mike graduate. How's your son doing?
Wow! Thanks for all the info! I know Cody had wanted to go to Sears Tower, but I will definately check into the Chase Tower! Do you remember how much the division shirts are? I hate carrying cash, but it looks like I'm going to have to.
I won't be going for the overnight, but am trying to talk my husband into going for part of Saturday. I have Fibromyalgia and had a bad flare up last weekend. I am hoping my husband will agree to go because we both like blues and bbq.
Awe, I'm glad he likes it, hopefully Cody will like it more in 4 weeks when he's done with basic. And I'm going to his PIR, hopefully it will be nicer there then it will be here in July! Any good tips for the trip? I could use any advice!
No, I have been to HI yet. We were supposed to go this summer, but my youngest son graduated high school last month. With all the expenses of graduation, we decided to wait. Also, we did not know for sure when our sailor will be on the island. His boat was in dry dock until a few months ago, so we don't know his schedule yet.
Hi Patty! Good to know another Okie Mom! My son considered Guam before deciding on Hawaii instead. I am glad mainly because of the time difference. 5 hours ((Daylight Savings Time) is hard enough. We can usually talk around 11 am our time when he first wakes up or 10 pm which is about when he gets off work on good days. I am in 2 of your Groups; Sub Moms & Ok Navy Moms. I will also be joining the Catholic Moms group since I found it on your page! What part of OK are you in? I am in NE. Hope to talk again soon.
I know what you mean about it being too far. Gabe is talking about asking for Australia. Of course, he doesn't really know what the next step is. He says he will probably be there for another 5 months at least anyway. We'll see.
Gabe skydives on his own time. He goes about every other weekend. He loves it and recommends it to anyone who has any interest...and even to those of us who don't!
Brad left today to go back to VA...pretty rough day. He flew in in uniform so he could go to the VA hospital to see his Dad...might have been one of the highlights of the many weeks he has been there. OK was interesting for Brad to fly into in his dress blues!
Stuart ought to be getting here soon!! Have a great visit. Has he gotten his orders yet? Any idea what boat?
Hi Patti! Wow, it just doesn't seem possible that Stu already has orders and will be heading overseas in a month! Seems like it was just yesterday that we were sitting together in the stands with our tissues!! I'm so glad he will have a nice visit at home before he leaves.
We are heading to Alabama on May 17. Just four more weeks of school and theater, then we get to see our new state! Ray is really loving the Huntsville area and has sent us some great pictures. Gabe is doing well. He is loving skydiving and was told yesterday that he is a natural. He was so happy to hear that. He still has the highest gpa in his ATT classes, so he feels really good about that. He said that might allow him to be one of the first to get his orders when he finishes (which still will not be for at least 5 months according to him as he hasn't even started GM A school yet). He is talking about requesting Guam, Japan or Australia. He is most interested in Australia, I think. However, he said he might decide to do C school and stay stateside for a while. He still has some time to think about it.
Stay safe from those twisters!! I hope you are enjoying the spring!
I forgot to mention, when Brad came home after school, his recruiter wrote off some of his leave time when he went in the the recruiting station. So he got to stay for a good visit and not use up all his leave. Good for the recruiter to have a fresh face and the enthusiasm of a Sailor there for a few days.
My son-in-law, Dustin has been to Guam, his last boat, the Ohio, was stationed out of there although he lived out of Bangor Sub Base, Washington. My daughter would have had little opportunity to work if they had relocated and they flew the crew back to Washington anyway. Dustin said it is beautiful there though. Brad has stayed Atlantic Fleet so far. His boat is still not commissioned but he has been out on the Texas and the Boise temporarily. His cruise with the Boise was really great as he got to see several European ports. He also got to pick up several ribbons that he won't be getting with his boat still in the shipyard! We are having a great visit. He flew in in his dress blues and we walked into the VA hospital looking so sharp, he made his dad so proud.
You have a great visit this coming month! I take it that you were not in the fire area since you did not mention it? Take care.
