A week ago today, we took our SR down to the office and said goodbye. I can't believe it's been a week now. Maybe time will go faster than I thought it would.

We had a family camp event to go to the next day. Although I did miss him not being there, it was a nice distraction for me. There was a vendor out at the venue that had Bacon Lemonade, Shark on a stick and Alligator. My SR would be the first one to jump up and say "Challenge accepted.. I'll eat that.." He is never afraid to be the first one in to try something new or take a dare. I laughed at the thought of him trying that Bacon Lemonade. I hope he keeps that 'stand up' type attitude while he is BC.

Life does go on, you adjust to things. I 'm no longer upset setting the table and realizing he's not home any more. I don't get teary when I run across something of his. (On a funny note, the grocery bill was down some this week.) Sometimes I forget he's not there and go make extra like I normally did, but I don't get upset over it now. I just put it in the fridge. One of the other boys will end up eating it after school or their lunch later... dad will take it for lunch. I'm working on the new 'normal' for the household functions.

Now, "The Box".... it came while we were at work. All week I've read other mom's getting their boxes in the mail and I've been anxiously waiting to get ours. When I got home and saw the tag, I got teary. I called Fed Ex right away because they didn't accept my door noted I had signed saying leave it. While I was on the phone with the woman from Fed Ex, I had a major melt down. They HAD TO HAVE A SIGNATURE.... PERIOD...Or it would get returned to the shipper. We live in a rural area with a driver that only comes out at a certain day/time. She couldn't get the driver to re-try or reschedule something to fit my work schedule. I can't afford to sit at home all day and wait either. I started in just sobbing over it on the phone. When I told her what it was and what it meant to me she said she would try to contact the station office in Tempe to see what they could do. The main station is quite a drive from home or from work. It's hard to get off, run over there in traffic, go all the way home when you have other children at home that need you to be at home on time.

I had 15 minutes to get a grip, when Fed Ex called me back from the main station here. The lady there was able to find a little outlet station they use nearer to work for us to get to. It's still a drive, but one that wouldn't put me home super late. She promised it would be there this morning if I even wanted to go over at lunch to get it. For that, I do applaud Fed Ex for being understanding to a hysterical navy mom!

Hours later, ...I'm like... why did I get so worked up over this? It's just a box... just clothes that he probably just washed that day and threw them on. Just a pair of old tennis shoes, and ipod with a broken screen and a old cell phone that barely works....phone chargers....spare change....? Why did I get hysterical over not getting it? Value wise, its not worth anything to anyone. I guess it was because it's HIS STUFF... and dang it I want it back! I want to see it, pack it back up and put it with his other things I will have to box up. I guess, its my way of saying goodbye to the little kid I once had so I can say hello to the man I will have on the other side.

Hi AZBmom (S11 D193) I just came across your beautiful and funny blog post tonight while surfing the computer... my daughter is also S11 D193 she shipped out 4-9 out of Albany. I came across this quote while I was writing her a letter earlier tonight and wanted to share it with you - HAPPY EASTER! "I give you this to take with you: Nothing remains as it was. If you know this, you can begin again, with pure joy in the uprooting."  ~Judith Minty

Hi Belle's Mom. Thank you! I'm glad to hear from another Mom of a Ship 11 SR. I love the words you had to share. We got a call this morning that has put me to ease. My SR is just fine. I worry a lot but that's what moms do.
