The lump in my throat and the pride in my heart

The count down began months ago when we received the news regarding my sons official "deployment" date...8/22/14.  10 months...seems like a decade of time versus "boot camp" and "underways"

Underways prepare you ( somewhat ) for the periods of time you don't hear from your sailor. I became like a teenager with a school girl crush - watching and waiting for texts / emails or if I was lucky a PHONE CALL!! In my mind I knew he was never in harms ways since I assumed he was never that far of the coast of the US...safe zone.

Now the date is upon us, the lump in my throat has grown from the size of a pea to the size of a grapefruit. Trying to hold it together for the family - they all look to me to be  their pillar of strength. I dig deep....into the pride in my heart.  The pride I have for my son - my sailor :) I remember the day he told me he was joining and the day he graduated from boot camp...the day he became a Petty Officer 3rd Class...the look in his eyes and the determination I see to "be a leader not a follower"  as I have told him on more that one occasion.  I'm reminded of his graduation day - 700+ sailors reciting the Navy Creed and the words - Ship - Shipmate - Self.

My tears swell with love and pride :)
