Just wanted to vent a little....

My husband and I have been married a little over 2 weeks now. Yes it's very new! But have been together almost 5 years and have a daughter together.

After we got married he left 4 days after. Yeah... not much of honeymoon. But I must say I know what I signed up for so can't really complain can I?

Since my husband has been gone... Our daughter has started Kindergarten. It just sucks he missed her first day and all he could do was see pictures. He did  make an effort and spoke to her right before she walked out the door. But I am just so concerned about her being so young and not understanding why things are the way they are for the moment. What do you tell a 5 year old about why her father isn't home more often? The questions are starting to come and I'm not even sure how to answer her. =(

We'll be moving in 4 months to VA to a place where I have no one... I'm trying so hard to be prepared but honestly how prepared can I really be? Navy life shit changes EVERYDAY and you just don't know what's going to happen next. There are some days I really ask myself am I ready for this life. But I've been doing it for 4 years and it just gets so frustrating. And it's times like right now where we are getting ready to move and all these changes are happening that I just can't stand it and it's overwhelming.

Now that my husband is back in Japan it's so hard to communicate because he's deployed. Phone calls come every few weeks when he isn't on base. So I feel like I need a laundry list when he calls so I don't forget anything.

Hopefully I'm not the only that feels this way sometimes... or am I?

You may want to join Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors, Japan Mom's and Norfolk Sailors - Family & Friends. You can also check out Navy wives of Norfolk/Portsmouth VA and Ladies of VA. What is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and/or where is he stationed (what vessel, if one)? There may be other groups I can direct you to.

Yes, keeping a list of questions near the phone or computer is good for those things you absolutely must ask, but you will find that you are able to handle more than you think and those calls are well spent on time for the two of you.

Hi Lemonelephant,

He's currently and E4/Machinist Mate. He's going to be stationed in Norfolk but not sure which vessel as of yet.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thank you!

When my husband was in the Navy our son was very young, on 2, and the last thing that I wanted was him not to recognize his father when he came back from deployment.  You should have your husband make video's on his cell and email them to you for your daughter.  Seeing personal messages or him telling her a story does so much for these kids.  Our even better is you can Skype with him while he is gone, but if not the video's will let her hear his voice and have communication with him.  I know it did so much for our son.

Hi Amanda,

What an amazing idea! Your right she always loves to Skype with him! He use to leave little messages for her on Voxer but hasn't done that in awhile. I'm going to talk to him about doing the videos for her. That could really help. =)

I really appreciate the reply Amanda!
