My husband got swore in on the 13th of May in San Diego, he flew to Illinois on May 14th. He is now in his 10th day at boot camp I guess you can say. I am missing him more than ever before. I am living at my in laws house. Its so hard waking up every morning and not having him next to me, going to bed every night and not having him there. We are a team, we're so used to being together all the time together and now that he's hundreds of miles away I don't know what to do with myself or what to do to make time go by faster so I wont miss him as much. This experience is teaching me how to value and appreciate him more. That quote "you never know what you have until it's gone" makes more sense to me now than it ever did before. I received his box May 20 and that just broke me, seeing my name on that box with his writing and opening it and seeing his clothes in there :( literally cried all night. does anyone recommend anything for me to do while he's gone?

I work a full time job entering data from 1pm-10pm and I am planning to go to college for summer but thats not till June 20 something, any suggestions on what I should do in the meantime? oh and as for friends I only have 2 close friends and they have lives of their own so I can't really hang out with them as much as i would like. Please if you have any comments or any recommendations just let me know, I would be so thankful. :)

Stay busy, take care of yourself, stay connected with others going through the same thing (I left groups on your My Page and join your PIR group as well once it has been created),  stay connected with your SR by writing encouraging letters even before you have his address (see Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for ideas), stay connected with the ones who are still at home by being involved with them (his parents, especially his mom are missing him, too)--you may find that you have more in common that you thought, and stay informed about what is going on with your recruit in BC (there's a lot of info in the Pages in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) like Arrival and What Happens at the RTC) and what to expect at PIR and after (if you give me his contracted rating, job/specialty, I will give you info).

Yes, it's fine to fall apart every now and then. Just don't stay there. Showers are great places for that. You will get used to the new normal and getting the form letter so that you can send letters and then getting that first "real" letter in the third week may help (remember though that the first letter from a recruit may indicate things aren't going so well--don't worry; it will get better as the recruits learn to work together and to do things the Navy way instead of their own way).

sleep with his shirt on...use one of his shirts as a pillow case...write, write, write...and send letters to him everyday. He knows you miss him and he misses you too but try not to tell him that you are struggling because then he will be so worried about you and he really needs to stay focused during these next few weeks. let him feel your positive vibes thru  your letters and this will help him make it thru the toughest days of boot camp. YOU will be ok. Just as lemonelephant says, connect with the PIR group and also with the other groups that will relate to his rate. You will learn a lot here and you come back here everyday so that you can feed your brain and get lots of support from all of your new Navy sisters here!

start crossing off those Fridays on your calendar and before you know it, you will be in your hubby Sailor's arms!

Hi! My husband also left from San Diego MEPS on the 14th! I think our husbands were talking to each other because my husband said there were two other guys who were married! I was the with family with the marine that was there (my hsubands cousin) how are you doing? What division did your husband end up in. Mine is ship 14 division 238! I wrote him and asked if any other guys from San Diego MEPS were there but I hadn't heard back yet. :)

well other than missing him and crying myself to sleep every here and there I'm doing good. We're so used to being with each other all the time, he's my best friend and it sucks being away, but I know we will be together again soon. I've been keeping myself busy with work and hanging out with my girlfriend a lot lately just going shopping and what not. My husband called me on Sunday. It was out first official 10 mins phone call and he started crying because he said its tough but hes hanging in there and he just really wanted to hear my voice. Awwww. I had to be strong and not cry, that would only make things worse but I'm writing to him everyday just trying to motivate him as much as I can :) How are you doing? Has your husband called?

So crazy that we found each other on here! Oh really! My husband is in division 238 ship 14! Too bad they couldn't have stayed with each other! I'm so excited for him to graduate. I saw a picture of him on that Facebook page and he was in his uniform already and it made it feel so real!

Ahh I feel you! It sucks! So hard. I try not to sound too sad in the letters but I want him to know I'm thinking of him also! I didn't think it'd be this hard. I saw one of his cousins today and he was like Cass you look so tired. You need sleep haha. My eyes are so tired looking from crying. I sleep in his shirt every night and I write him everyday. I just got some letters from him today. It was nice because I hadn't gotten any since the 21st of May. Have you gotten your stuff for graduation yet? What is your husbands job?

I know it really is! but its also pretty cool :) Awwww I know, it would've been nice if they had:(  I saw two pictures of my husband on facebook as well and started freaking out! I literally wanted to scream of joy but it was 1 in the morning lol It's all starting to sink in and time is starting to go by pretty fast now, its a good thing :)

Yeah same here, I want him to know that I miss him but not sound like I want him to give up and come home. I try my best not to sound so sad in the letters too :) HAHAHA tell me about it! I only get 5 hours of sleep daily because I can't sleep without him and sometimes I have to cry myself to sleep, its so hard. I sleep in his sweatshirt, his shirt was way too stinky for me LOL BO stinky. gross haha. I already got the graduation letter but none of his letters and he said he sent out like 20 :( I hate snail mail! It's the worst!!! I still need to book the hotel and flight, I need to call and ask around and take the best deal I can wait. He's going to be a Cryptological Tech :) what about you? Have you booked your hotel and flight? What job did your future sailor pick?
