I have been out of the loop and just getting back on.  I see some groups have formed an alum group.  Did our group do that and do ya know where I can find it?  My son went to A school in Monterey CA.  Three others sailors went with him but to Linguistics school but not sure how to hook up with anyone.  Any ideas?

otty - the big group is staying together as an alumni group right now - although you can begin an alumni group for just you guys if you would like!

I haven't been on here for a while, I wanted to say hello to everyone. How is a school for your sailor going? Where are that at? My son stayed at the great lakes. He is in hospital corps school. since his class is the last hm class to graduate there, he has to pass everyone of his tests with an 80 or higher or he gets kicked out of hm school.

Hi Otty and Soccermom!  How are your sons doing?   My son is doing well.  I still miss him, but it is so different than BC.  I get to text him daily and we talked for two hours today.  He is in Goose Creek, SC and is waiting to class up.  He is going to be an Electrician's Mate.  Two years of schooling.   My husband and I are going to visit him next week since we didn't get much time to visit at GL. 

 

Soccermom-Wow 80%!  I am sure he will do fine though.  How much time did you get with your son?  Because he stayed in GL, were you able to visit the weekend?  Wasn't it absolutely freezing in GL?  Since we are from California it was a whole new level of cold.  Burr!!!  Funny, but that next Sunday was really warm, in the 80's!

 

Otty-Saw your son and husband at Recruit Heaven.  I thought it was them, but was too shy to ask.  It wasn't until later when I asked my son who your son was.  We were sitting down eating Subway.  Did your husband have a good time?  We were so tired we didn't go to the Meet and Greet.  It was really fun going to the NEX and Recruit Heaven and being amongst all the Sailors.  We also didn't have to panic getting our son back on time.

HI Cheryl,

 

So far so good with Shawn. He is still passing room inspections and trying really hard to be the top of his class. (Fingers crossed here). For a kid that had no ambition, he is really a different person now. He got "IT" 17 times, while in bootcamp, lol. 13 of those times was his fault and the other 4 was because someone else. I am sooooo glad he had a tough RDC, he went into bootcamp like "no one is going to change me, bootcamp is a breeze" :-)He is so obedient, CLEAN and organized.

 

Yes, I was able to spend the weekend with him, and the first night at the hotel, the first thing he did was hang each clothing to a "T" and polish his shoes. Let me tell you, this kid would walk on the bottom of his pants until they were ripped. He did not care what he looked like. And cold, yes it was! We are from Florida, and its warm all the time. He misses Florida.  Saturday, we were able to take Shawn around and get things for his room that he needed, and I was able to go to his barracks. They really have everything right at there disposal on base. I think that was very comforting for me. He is also seeing the brighter side to joining the Navy, he realizes there is more perks than anything.

 

You are very far away from your son too :(  I hope you have a great time visiting him next week. How does he like SC?

Hi Cheryl.  Been awhile since I have been on the site.  So nice to hear you saw my two men in GL.  So glad to hear you are able to chat with your son often.  I still haven't seen mine since February, but we do talk occasionally.  He is in Monterey CA at DLI learning linguistics.  Two languages.  Very heavy load and tons of study and homework.  At least they get the weekends off and it is beautiful Monterey!  Ocean, warm weather...I'm jealous.  He is only 10-11 hours from here so road trips are in the future.  We wanted him to get settled first.  Now with summer coming, I'm sure we will head down often.  But he is doing well.

How are your son's electrician classes going?  Does he like it?  I'm glad you and your hubby can visit often.  He will love that!  

Such young men now, aren't they.
