As far as the TV, he has a 55inch I know he won't be able to have (don't think he does) but I have a 32inch so we may just have to do a temporary trade (:

alright, do you know if there is anywhere to call/look to find out for sure on the desktops? he built it himself, it's his baby haha

I think they are allowed desktop computers -- my son asked me to ship his to him and I said it would cost a fortune and he'd just have to make do with his Mac Pro -- poor baby.  Mine also bought a 36" or 42" flat screen from BB when he got down there.

Thanks girls.. guess we will learn to be traverlers! it's a 10 hour drive for us. One cool God thing is.. the young man right across the street from us will be in GS too, and he has a car. So both sets of parents are hoping they can drive holidays home together. Company for the driver, and a ride for my passanger sailor! How cool is that!

Hi! I'm a nuke girlfriend (almost PIR 07/01) and I have a few questions about what my boyfriend can have while at A school, (mainly because I am in charge of getting it there...) So, do any of you ladies happen to know what size television they are allowed? Also, is it true that they are only allowed laptop computers? My boyfriend just built a big fancy desktop and I'm sure will want it and I just want to know if I will have to worry about getting it there or if he can't even have it. Please let me know if any of you have answers(: Thanks!

I have the same request as Cal Sailor Mom, my sailor is also graduating A School on June 10, but I can't be there. If anyone is going, please let me know, I would love to see pictures. Thanks.

PIR was amazing, my sailor's was 12/3/10. We sat at the top of the floor bleachers. I started trembling when the doors went up and the divisions started marching in. He had sent us a 'map' of his division formation to show us where he would be marching, but it still took me a couple of minutes to find him. Once I did, I couldn't take my binoculars off him! He found us once they took their positions and it was so cool to make eye contact through the binoculars - once I saw him say 'hi mom', and I almost dropped my binoculars! The other cool thing that happened was that we just happened to sit next to my sailor's bc best friend's family! We all went to lunch together afterwards, what a great time we had! I will never forget that day.

Wow, great PIR memories!  It has only been 7 months for me, but seems like a year.  We sat mid-bleacher and could see just fine.  I was surprised how hard it was to identify my son - they really do change in those 8 weeks.  I am getting so excited for my visit to GC, only 35 days!!  Haven't seen him since Christmas, and I need to hug that boy.

Reading all the accounts of seating at PIR brings tears to my eyes and gives me goose bumps.  I am so thankful that I was able to be there.

As far as seating.  I was on the floor...My sailor's PIR was 1/7/11.  As things happen, I was in the ER with chest pains on Mon. 1/3/11 and recieved 3 stents, and was informed by the Dr.  that I had had a heart attack, and  that I would not leave the hospital till Fri.the 1/7 the PIR date.  (So. MN is 7 hours away from GL).  By God's Grace, many prayers, and believing for divine intervention, the Dr. informed me Wed afternoon I would be released Thurs AM.  I could travel, but not drive, lift, or walk long distances.  So my brother drove, borrowed a wheel chair from his church, (which really wasn't necessary, because there were a ton of them at the entrance for people to use)  And I was wheeled up to the front row on the floor in front of the bleachers.  My sailor was within 5 feet of me when they marched in,  but he did not know I was there because when he called my cell to say  " I AM A SAILOR"  I answered that call from the hospital bed, and had to tell him I don't know if I am going to be able to make it.  My brother, and several of my sailor's friends that made the trip with us, and a neice from Chicago sat in the bleachers above us, they could see him and he could see them.  When they called liberty and we made our way to him , I got the longest, tightest hug I ever had.   Thanks ladies for the discussion and bringing back the wonderful memories.  He is now on t-track waiting to start power school the end of June.  We decided we would take a drive down to GC mid June to see him before this big intense push of power school starts.  I want to find some of those great coupons for things in Charleston that I have read about on here.

Sunnyb~ My son is in A School now, Phase II.  We visited him the the second week while he was in Indoctrination.  During this time they can go off base on the weekends and have not begun mandatory studying, so they are more free.  Kat gave us this tidbit of info.  Thanks Kat!!   He still had to be back at the base, though, by midnight.  He won't be getting any leave until after A School graduation (hopefully).   We are going to visit again next week, but anticipate seeing him only on Saturday and Sunday after he puts in his mandatory study hours.  It will probably be best if you visit your son in GC if you would like to see him before six months.  We live in California, so it takes quite a lot of money and planning to do so.  He needs a car, though, so it's Goose Creek or bust!!

Kat~ Is your son doing any better?  How is rehab going?  The poor guy has certainly had his share of physical challenges!
