Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son graduated high school June 14th, enlisted June 17th and is leaving for BC on July 25th.  Pretty quick, I thought I would have more time to help him get ready.  He has been trying to get in since January but has been a long process.  This site is so helpful I have been reading up on things since February but still have lots of questions and things to do, ha!! ha!!

Shoprat: My son goes to the recruiting office by Lakeside. The recruiter said we could take him out to dinner when he is at the hotel...just has to be back by 10:00 P.M. or something like that. He said to get to MEPS early on the day they leave (like 8:00 a.m.) because he said you never know how many will ship out that day. We did attend the swearing in ceremony for the reserves DEP program and the room is very small. The recruiter said they will be formally removed from the reserves and sworn into the navy...again.

Hi Rochester Hills Mom: My daughter leaves for boot camp on July 25; We are very close to you in Waterford. I've been asking my daughter for a few weeks what time she has to report the day before she ships out. Do you know if you can have dinner with them the night before? I wonder if our kids know each other; she goes to the recruiting office by Great Lakes. We are also planning a shipping out party and just counting down the days now-it's sneaking up quickly.

Hi Patricia! We are in the Vanc area ... not sure what the group is called but it is the office near the mall. Is that your son's group as well?

Spoke with recruiter yesterday. Will drop son off at his office 7/5 @ 1:00 and they will take him to the hotel in Troy, Michigan that evening. We can attend the swearing in ceremony the next day @ 9:00 a.m. at MEPS also in Troy. Luckily we live only 20 minutes away. Anyone else leaving for GL on 7/6? Starting to get things organized for his "Sail Away" cookout on 7/2. Tigers baseball game on the 3rd., and just chillin with immediate family on the 4th.

My son's date is July 19, he will report to the recruiter's office on July 18th.  We are in SW Virginia.  We are very proud of him, and sad at the same time, he is our only child.  His grandfather was in the Navy in WWII and his uncle was in the Navy as well.

My daughter's date is July 5th and we now have confirmation that she does have to report to her recruiter's office at 2pm on the 4th of July. Anyone else out there heading to GL on the 5th? We are in the Portland/Vancouver area.

She finished up her JC finals this week and is packing up her room, we are planning her going away party for 2 weeks from today so this now feels very real. Both exciting and scary!
