Cindy P, I strongly recommend that you contact a chaplain at Corry Station.

Hey all, sorry I haven't on on much.
I actually am spending a bunch of time on Facebook. I just really enjoy seeing how all the hot topic always pop to the top.

Anyways. Per the State of Residence, here is what I wrote before... http://navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/most-sailors-d...
My recommended my son change his when he 1st joined the Navy. He did. He switched his to Florida and never had to pay a dime in taxes. He has now completed his 6 years so he's in for a rude awaking when he has to start paying that tax again.
I know I change mine when I went to Pensacola for school. I didn't pay state taxes for 18 year because I became a Florida resident. Woo-hoo!!!

Yeah well I bugged him in Florida too and all I heard is I've got it covered. Yeah right!

Cinder I think it took mine 3 months of me reminding him. Then once done he said that was easy why did I put it off. LOL

Comment by cinder on December 9, 2013 at 11:58pm
Thanks everyone just a matter of getting him to do what he needs to do. LOl

My son changed his state of residence when he was in Pensacola to Florida. Florida has no state tax so it was beneficial for him to do this. However he did have to get a Florida drivers license which he needed to do anyway as he didn't get one before he went to boot camp. My other sailor has always had Oregon as his state of residency even though he has been stationed in Washington and now Florida until last month when he licensed his car in Florida. Even though Oregon has a state tax that come out of your check if you live there all military are exempt in Oregon from paying state tax. Cinder it would be benefical for your son to change his state of residency to Washington since they do not have a state tax either and California just rakes then in state taxes. When my middle son changed from Hawaii to Florida he saw an additional 100 dollars on each check once they stopped taking out the state tax. They just have to go to the finance office and fill out a form.

no, that's what I meant, regarding for the sailor's address.  the spouse has to use the state in which s/he resides.  my son, fortunately, signed up in our home state and county so......  ;-)
