I see that this group isn't very active, i just wanted to add a little update for anyone who was wondering what the wait time was like to class up recently. My fiance arrived on 4/25/15 and classed up on 5/11/15. He was told at bootcamp that aviation rates usually had a long wait time so we were surprised he classed up so quickly!

michaelsmom so did your sailor actually wait 7 months to class up?

Comment by Lisa FLNavyMom on December 8, 2014 at 9:53am

bananabear, it's not automatic, she needs to put in a chit for time off and they will let her know if she can leave.

My daughter arrived in Pensacola on November 28th.  It seems it will be a while before she classes up. Do the sailors get to come home for Christmas since they havent classed up?

My son also arrived in Pensacola feb 1 2014. He has been told he won't class up for 7 months. Keeping busy on work parties and watch standing. Wish he would start sooner.

Back in 2009 my sailor waited 6 weeks to class up, I know it varies all the time and seems to be especially long lately.  The government shutdown last year might have something to do with the long wait now, but I don't know for sure.  I think the job is not as overmanned as when my sailor joined so hoepfully things will go faster for your sailor in the future. Tell him to stay busy, keep out of trouble and maybe think of volunteering for opportunities that come his way.

I'm new to this group. My son has been in Pensacola since February 1. So far I have read where some sailors have been waiting to class up for couple of months. I'm okay with my son being there for a while because he's only 7 hours away from home. However, it makes me wonder why is there such a long hold and why do they allow so many sailors to enlist for this job knowing it is over manned. Any information will help.

Woo Hoo! My son has been in P'cola since November, and will finally class up in a few weeks! Anyone else close?
