NavyMomDPL Congratulations! Do they have different Blue Jacket Awards for each department? My son was nomintated but the last I heard he was waiting for the interview.

Just received a email from my brother, HE GOT MAIL!  He received my pkg and said I am the best sister ever!!  I sent him the sheets and mattress pad from http://www.navyfleetsheets.com/sheets.php  

He says it is going to be great to sleep on.  Also this company is great.  I emailed them with questions and got a response back right away.

It is a quarterly award for hard charging Junior Sailors to recognize them for their hard work and achievements. They are nominated by their chain of command and go before a board where they are quizzed on Navy policies, chain of command, current events and scenarios they are given. The board picks the best of the group and they are recognized on the ship as Blue Jacket of the Quarter. Great accomplishment and something for them to put on their eval which can move them ahead of those who don't have these awards.

Congrats to him.

Iam such a proud mom right now. MY sailor received the Blue jacket of the quarter award.  Dad will you remind me what it is for, I know it is a big deal

Lol, mommaross...personal flotation device is a good idea then you wouldn't have to worry about those rumors of mail falling into the ocean. Sounds like your packages will handle a nuclear blast if need be. :)

I put a trash bag inside the box and fill the bag with goodies and if there's any liquid or anything I don't want mixing with other things I put those in a ziploc baggie. Then I put 3 layers of tape around the whole box, sides, top, bottom and if there's any small spaces on corners I put more tape on there lol.  I'll be very disappointed if any of my boxes get ruined - If I could I'd put a personal float device in each box too - just in case it ends up over board lol!

Tonya, yeah that is the way to do it and those things are sealed really well. It is things like soda cans and cardboard drink packs that are not going to make that kind of a journey. 

I would have thought cookies would be a mess by the time they got there but Anita sent those fragile vanilla wafer cookies and they made it just fine. I think it has a lot to do with how much of a delay and how much extra handling the packages get during their journey. If they go straight there in a couple weeks they are probably better off than getting sent to various countries, being loaded and unloaded onto RAS ships and taking 6 weeks to get there, which it appears this batch of mail did.

I'm thinking inside a plastic bag with address label attached to bag, if boxes are getting so beat up that stuff is falling out.  Plastic bag would serve two purposes, sticky messes and keeping items together.

Probably a good idea Juliana. Make sure you tape up the outside of the box well as my son also said lots of the packages were torn open and stuff was falling out of them. Said there were very beat-up when they got them.
