Oh Bubweena, my heart aches for you all! I'm glad he made it safely to Guam and already got a phone! The time difference stinks but we all get used to it! It sounds like things are falling into place with a sponsor and such. I am sorry but I have no info about moving a bride or housing products. And really not sure about the cat!

Did you ever find the Navy Moms and Families page on FB? We've had a lot of new people added. Thelma, the admin had posted a link. It would be a good place for you to check out

Take care

Well he left Saturday morning.  I thought my heart was going to break watching him walk away and watching him ing to his new bride of 5 days.  Tears rolling down all our family faces.  It never gets any easier.  When I dropped biz oldest brother off at college in 07 in SC a d we live  in MY, I thought I would die.  Little did I know then that saying goodbye to him as he left for S Korea makes college seem like a cake walk.  He left the week my Sailor graduated from basic.  It has been a roller coaster ride ever since.

He made it to Guam after 20 hours of grueling traveling.  Already got his new phone.  We have been told all types of things about how long it takes to get their spouses Command Sponsored.  Well Tommy called today and she has already been sponsored.  He technically has only been there one day.  We are still waiting on her passport and the form she has to have filled out to be medically cleared.  It is just unbelievable.  I am so happy for them.

Now I know the Navy pays to move their belongings, which isn't much, but I heard it takes 3 months to get there.  I heard they have a warehouse of furniture that they can borrow from or do they rent it or buy it?  What do they do for household goods, dishes, pots and pans, glasses, towels etc?  I really hate for them to have to buy all this stuff when they have all these lovely wedding gifts.  I also assume things are more expensive because it is an island.

Oh another question, they have a cat.  Are they allowed to bring her?  If so does anyone know what is involved?

Sorry again for all the questions

Ceej thanks for all the information.  My son is also in Santa Rita.  He told me the first thing he is going to save for is a car.  He will have to teach her how to drive.  Marriage test  number 1, LOL.  He has no patience and she cries at the drop of the hat.  Glad I won't be there for that.  Maybe our sons can meet up.  We kept telling  them to get out and make friends.

Well ladies I have bothered you enough for one night.  Thanks

Charlotte... thanks for the FB link. I will ask to join. My sailor isn't there yet but will be soon. He is an MM2 and will be on the Cable.

His GF is planning on moving to Guam in early 2015. I am not sure how I feel about that. I am mostly concerned because I don't know enough about the island or its economy.

Bubweena,

I can only speak for my son's experience but his duplex had a washer and dryer and I go the impression from him and his wife that all of the properties they were shown had washer and dryers.  My kids live in Santa Rita and they like it but I don't know anything about any other areas.  My understanding about the busses is that they are few and far between and not very reliable.  Most people have their own cars.  If your daughter in law doesnt drive, it will be even more important that they choose housing that is more densely populated so she'll have the ability to meet neighbors and maybe catch some rides. My son's first friend in Guam bought a car there as soon as he got there but didnt know how to drive so my son's first few weeks in Guam was teaching him how to drive.  Trust me your son's sponsor will help him through all of these issues.

That is so weird Momof2sailors....would you mind telling me your FB name or friend requesting me on FB, my name is Charlotte Hoffner and then maybe we could try via FB to get it figured out.

I warned Thelma about all the people I was sending her way! Lol. She is a sweetheart and you will love the group. It's hard to figure out who is who because N4M names are not always peoples real names. I can't keep track of who's kid is on what either! My son is on the Cable! IT2

I just logged on to get in on this conversation trail, but Charlotte, ya beat me to it!  GUAM Navy Moms & Family, that's the one.  I got a nice FB message from Thelma last night.  I'm sorry I'm not often on this page, I always feel like I'm keeping up with the conversations because they roll into my email (which I check more often than here).  I think I'm going to need to start keeping a notebook or something so I can keep everyone straight!  : )    I know there are some Cable moms on here (my son's a GM2 on the Cable) and of course I always THINK I will remember who's-who, but then of course I don't.  Ah yes, another day older, another day closer to turning into my mother..............!!!!  :)    Hope you all have a terrific weekend!
