~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

DianneP. how did your son like Mississippi? my son is slated for ships serviceman and I've been wondering about that.

Leanne:  A good one close to RTC is Navy Lodge.  You book in your SR's name unless you yourself have military ID.  Navy Lodge is about a mile or so from RTC.  Rates are very good!  There will be lots of others staying there so you will have good company.

Are you renting a car?  That is the most economical way to get around in the area.  I have heard that Enterprise has some good rates right now so check them out.  If you decide not to rent a car, you would need to use Sarge's shuttle service....he is a great guy, great service, but it can get costly depending on how often you need to use it!

My son went to A School in Mississippi when up there 4 yrs ago.  He flew out on Saturday.  Chances are that they will fly out on Saturday...but this being a holiday weekend, you never know if it could be Sunday.  Try and book your own return on Sunday if possible so you won't miss time with your sailor if Sunday is the departure date.  You can always sightsee after you see your sailor off at the airport if he leaves early on Saturday.  My son left from OHare also.

Very doubtful that he will stay until Monday, since that is Memorial Day....lots of booked flights.

Good Morning!

For those that are experienced in the GL area. What is the best hotel to stay at closest to the RTC. Looks like I am traveling by myself and would like to find somewhere that is safe, clean and descent price. Maybe someone can respond within division 177/178 that has already made their hotel reservations? I will be flying into Ohara airport on Thursday. when I talked to my son yesterday he said that they may be flying them out that Saturday morning but wasn't sure. He is heading to Mississippi. Anyone have any different information than that?

Comment by Momof3 on April 17, 2014 at 6:22am
Southwest Florida, Tampa Bay Area. He is staying in GL for school, 9 weeks I believe.
Comment by diannep on April 16, 2014 at 11:09pm

Hint for those driving to PIR:  Don't get in that car line!  Stay to the left on Buckley (main drag to RTC)....car line on your right.  Bypass RTC and turn around, approaching from the opposite direction.  Easy left turn into RTC.  This is one of Sarge's hints....we have had ladies in previous PIR groups confirm that it works!  Those taking shuttles to PIR do not wait in the car line either.

A reminder that this is a holiday weekend so for those with sailors staying in GL for A School, you will have Monday Liberty with your sailor also!  Keep that in mind when making return travel arrangements.  For those with sailors flying out, they probably will be flying out on Saturday or possibly Sunday.

Hi any Mom's here for ship 03 div 178?

Comment by Anneliza on April 16, 2014 at 9:58pm
I got a call from my son this afternoon. He was able to talk for 30 minutes. He said the chow is good, PT is hard but he's getting stronger, and he doesn't like wearing a parka and scarf. I'm a happy momma now!
