OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We got our call this morning. Our SR sounded good and cheerful. Lots of laughing. He said the food is amazing. They spent their first day in PT yesterday and it wasn't too bad. Sounds like his is in a good division.

I received my first call this morning! I was so happy to hear from my son. He said the days are long but he is found well. He received his first letter from me last Wednesday! He said letters help them get through the day so he wants them to keep coming!

That would be great to get a call.  My son is SHIP 09 DIV 192.  I will keep my fingers crossed!

Just received my first phone call! I missed his first call - but thankfully he called right back! He sounded great - positive and upbeat. When I heard his voice all I wanted to do was cry - but I wanted to make sure he knew I was strong and holding it together here at home. He said that he hadn't received any letters - and was wondering if I was writing. I laughed and said "of course I am" and explained that letters sometimes get delayed. Hopefully he starts getting them soon.
