I posted this in the Ballston Spa group so apologize if others have also read it, but I'm told that prototype has been extended to November, and son thinks it may go through the end of the year. Do they need equipment to do checkouts on or is it all theoretical? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that a phase that normally lasts around 6-7 months is getting stretched to 11. Thanks for any help!

Hi there, I am new here and my son just got to Goose creek from RTC.  He is pretty self reliant so Im not sure he will "ask "me for too much so I plan to bake and like the towel idea for packages, but I will gladly accept any /all ideas or info on this next phase for him!  Thank you all and to your sailors for their hard work and dedication.  The NUKE program sounds intense but the payoff should be great in the end!

I would like to wish everyone a very Blessed Easter.   Although most of us will not have our sailors home, they will be with us in spirit.

I got to talk to my sailor today!  He is quite happy in A school, but is still working on the physical fitness aspect.  He got rolled back to phase one because he is two push-ups short of what he should be able to do in two minutes.  However, he is confident he can fix that by next time.  He loves the academics and the fast pace, but his arms are quite sore from all the PT he is working on.  Running and sit-ups are fine, but he has to build some arm strength because he has never had to do that before.  It was nice to hear the excitement in his voice.

As he was talking to me, he was walking through the liberty hall, and I could hear someone playing the piano.  He said that numerous sailors there play the piano quite well, so someone frequently is playing.  He enjoys his new computer, Netflix, Amazon ebooks, video games and bowling.  He said that having an outside interest/hobby is important to being a happy nuke.

If anyone has a sailor heading up to ballston spa and needs any furniture or household items, please message me and I'll forward my son's email address to you.  He just got his orders and will be leaving in less than 2 weeks.  He has quite a bit of furniture and other household items that he has no use for.  They were also renting a nice little 3 bedroom duplex that will be vacant as of May 15.  He has a queen size bed frame, mattress and box spring that was purchased last May too.

Danishea. Best of luck to you and your son, it is best if he was not happy with the nuke choice. My nuke is happy but his twin is not happy with his job. I am hoping he will redirect when he can rather than leave the navy but he will do what he will do.

Danishea, My best wishes to your son in this new path. All we want is for our kids is to be happy and enjoy life!
Comment by Danishea on April 17, 2014 at 7:25pm

I will be leaving this group as my son did not pass A school and will be moving on to something else. I am actually happy that he did not pass because he really did not like being a Nuke and had he passed he would have continued on to Power school and Prototype with the mentality that he had through A school that it would get better in the fleet and been miserable in his job. I don't want that for him. I watch so many people go to a job they hate but are stuck in and I want him to be happy, which he is now. His plan now is to go to Groton for 8 weeks for sub quals and then to GA for missile tech. I wish the best for all of you and your Nukes.
