Thanks for the info Jill!  My son is almost done with school in Groton and I am wondering what he's going to do with his "stuff".  He doesn't have a lot, I don't think, but I've been sending him things, mostly goodies to eat, but did send him magic cards and his x box.  I imagine he'll just want to send it all back home but I don't think I want it either!!!  I'll have to ask him I guess!

hello all!!

Happy Friday!!

my son is on his first deployment.  I don't hear from him, but his wife does and she keeps me up to date (God bless her!!). I send him an email everyday and when I get my "modified" one back I am happy.  I know it doesn't mean he has actually gotten it, but I know it was sent.   I sure do miss him!!

(I posted this on the Nuke page, but since not all sub folks are Nukes...sorry to duplicate for those on both groups)

My ET son has just finished his leave (between Prototype and his assignment to the Seawolf).  It was really great to see him, especially since all you moms with sons underway remind me to enjoy him while we can see, hear or even email with him!  The sub is home-ported near Seattle, and the photos he's sent of the view from his room in the BEQ are beautiful.  Everything is so green!

He's trying to figure out what his new life is going to look like - living in the BEQ unless the sub is underway (I guess), since he's months away from E5 when he'll get to live off base again.  So he's got all of his Ballston Spa furniture (which I TOLD him not to buy) that he's putting in storage.  He's already realizing what a pain "stuff" is that you have to pack, move, store, unpack selectively, repack, move, store...  This'll teach him to live and be happy with just the few things you really need in life, i think.

I'll write more when I know what his routine is like -- this is the kind of information I wish I knew already, so I'll pay it forward :)

Saw your son went to sub ball Where and when do fellows have a chance to meet potential girlfriends/wives. Son had relationship, but she backed out as he was getting closer to end of his nuke schooling.

Thanks William. I am getting a clearer picture of what his life will be like.

Laura, my son is in Groton now but lives off base in an apartment because he is an E5 so gets paid BAH.  On work days  they serve 3 meals on the sub and on duty days he sleeps on the sub too.   He earned the dolphins and nuke qualifications in the shipyard and was not sent out on another sub.

Nice to see other vets on here.  It to am a vet.  Air Force from 1977-1982.  Met my husband while serving.  He was AF also and is not a Navy Reserve Chaplain.  Our youngest son is the reason I am on this group.  He is on the Alexandria which in in dry dock  Our 2 sons are also reservist after serving active duty.  We truly appreciate all who serve.  Thanks!

mrsb, I was in from 1982-1987 I did shore and sea duty in Norfolk, Va. Sea duty I was stationed on the USS LY Spear a sub tender we took care of the fast attacks. I was a DP2 which the Navy doesn't have any more they were moved to Radiomen.

LoriM, you will love Wa when you go visit, my older brother was on a carrier out of Washington and I went to visit. It is beautiful with lots to do and see.

navyvet, congrats on your son's dolphins.

Laura, my son likes WA very much.  He said there is more to do and see there than Groton.  He has sent some pics of the sights and views, very pretty.  Looking forward to when we can go out there.  Not really sure when that will be.
