Leave it to my son...travel to the middle east only to search out Japanese food which is his favorite. Him and a buddy found a Japanese food place in the expensive part of town and he said it was awesome but his dinner alone was $70. He sent me some photos and the buildings in the area are very impressive.

Yeah Colleen, you would think there would be plenty of moms that have Sailors stationed overseas that would want to connect with others in the same boat.

You're always welcome here. :)

Really happy for all of you getting calls from your sailors :)

Dad of Sailor - I can go one better - I'm English and everytime I open my mouth and speak to someone new they nearly always ask me; 1. have I ever met the queen (like she lived next door) or 2. My family were from England their name was smith do you know them. lol.  They don't understand there's over 56million people live there :).

Dad?    There's more than one ship?   Dang!!!!  jk

Tracy the Navy can sometimes be a "small world", neat he ran into him.

On the other hand, it was always a pet peeve of mine when civilians would see me in uniform when I was a recruiter and say "my cousin is in the Navy his name is Joe Smith do you know him?". I'd be like, "there are 400,000 people in the Navy and I don't know a Joe Smith". Seemed most civilians thought there was only one ship in the Navy and we were all on it. :)

One Happy MOm here--My son called!!!

Comment by TLC72 on April 24, 2014 at 1:44pm

This is the funniest thing. My son ran into a kid from our hometown yesterday that has been in the Navy for about 3 years. Keep in mind, our hometown has a population of about 600 or less, so the fact that these two traveled across the globe on the same ship is simply amazing to me. This kid isn't attached to the Bush, he's actually stationed somewhere else but travels with different ships. I'm not sure what his job is, but I know he's not attached to a squadron. It seems like he's doing either doing some kind of computer or electronics stuff. Oh, and not only is he from the same town and went to the same school (there is only 1), he's from our church!

Son just messaged me and said he had a great time at the beach but got burnt even with sunscreen. Says they are out now "trying to find something good to eat".
