Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My brother is in Div. 929 Ship 2. He invited me to his PIR and used one of his phone calls on me.  I was surprised at both and felt very special, since he is close to my parents and is married.  I plan to go.  I need to send him a letter soon now that I have his address, but he's not much of a writer.

DebbieS : I am excited to hear your daughter is playing music again.  My brother has an amazing singing voice and was selected to try out for a vocal group.  I hope he is chosen!

Aw I'm sorry KemMom... I'm sure you will get one soon! Let us know when you do :)
Congrats mommashep! 5 letters, that is great. My husband would never write that much.. Lol. Good for you!!

Yahoo!  I got 5 letters today!  I was so worried when I was reading that most of you got letters and almost afraid to check the mailbox but sure enough they were in there neatly stacked!  I started yelling to the rest of my family from the mailbox and they all ran down the driveway and we stood right there and opened each letter and I read them out loud.  It must have looked funny to my neighbors :)  Each letter had detail about what he was learning and doing and it really sounds like he is happy (well that was last week) and seems to be taking to the Navy like a duck to water.  I'm sure there will be days he will question his decision but I'm feeling so much better about all of this.  I continue to keep all of you and your SRs in my prayers.

DebbieS...Yes, my son told me that also. He is in 929.  So cool to have someone to share that with!  We will be there cheering them on for PIR!

Comment by DebbieS on April 24, 2014 at 3:58pm

Yep.  She is in Div 929 and plays the baritone.

She's also enjoying playing again.  Was in marching band for 4 years and was a little worried that she could play again since she hasn't played for a while.  She has always liked music so I'm glad she is happy rediscovering her talent!  haha

They are supposed to play at the 5/16/14 & 5/23/14 PIR

Hello Ladies! I got my first letter yesterday! Woop! It was short and sweet but awesome all the same. My son is in the 900 div and is enjoying playing trombone again. DebbieS I saw you post something about the 900. Is your SR in the 900?

Now....moving forward!  If anyone has not read the Family Guide on the RTC site, that would be a good thing to read through (it is under the FAMILIES tab).  Lots of info there.

Comment by diannep on April 24, 2014 at 2:54pm

cindyb:  Glad you are staying here!  No problem with anyone being on both groups....the more info, the better!  Just didn't want some leaving this group for the FB group feeling it was much more secure!  :-)
