DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Meant to say, PHONE cards, not NEX cards!  :-)

Comment by diannep on April 25, 2014 at 8:32am

Cheryl:  I don't want anyone to stress over being on this group or FB groups but.....like I said before, just ask yourself if what you are posting re: info your SR told you is something he would want you to share publicly on here.  That will solve many of the problems!  When in doubt on what to post, just post a question on here re: the subject matter you want to post about and one of us N4Moms veterans will let you know!

Good Morning All!

Trish/NanM; Yes, they can buy the NEX cards up there....they have a Recruit Debit Card to use for supplies but they have certain times they can go there....so if ladies on here want to send their SRs a phone card, it saves them money on their Recruit Debit Card to use for other things and they don't have to worry about getting to the NEX to get one.  Usually the SRs are very good about lending out their cards to other SRs until they get their own so I hope none miss calls because they don't have a card to use.

Just got home and there were 2 sweet letters from my SR..... I am one very, very happy Navy Mom...;) good night Sisters...

Trish, If you have a Costco near you, they have calling cards for $20/700minutes! That's what I got my son before he left. I think they can also get them at the NEX....I think I read that somewhere. I think they need those in order to make calls. Hopefully he will call you soon :)

Thank you so much diannep. For making that more clear. I completely understand now. I try to be very careful of things like that but I will be extra cautious now. I would be mortified if I thought something I said would get my son in trouble. I would never be able to forgive myself.

@Trish...Hi!  Our Son is in div 183...he has called a couple of times and we received letters from him yesterday.  No doubt, you'll hear from your SR soon!

Comment by Trish on April 24, 2014 at 11:05pm
Congrats to everyone on letters and calls! ;)
Has anyone heard anything on div 183? Just wondering as I haven't heard from my son at all- I'm going to get a calling card and send that I'm wondering if that's the problem? But without getting answers back on letters I'm not sure-
