Welcome jodymac - I agree, your Sailor will enjoy Groton. The Sailors here are held accountable, they work and study hard - it is ALL good! Your sailor will enjoy the lake to swim in, chow is better than BOOT,paint-ball park- there are some awesome young men to befriend. And you will love this site! There are honest answers to questions and true heartfelt huggs when you need them. Our son will be leaving Groton very soon and has truly enjoyed his time @ Groton. It has been quite a year for ALL of us! Fair Weather and Following Seas to your Sailor and ALL new arrivals to Groton!

jodymac - I believe our sons will be in school together!  Mine arrived 7/19.  So far, in the week he has been there, nothing but positive things have come out of his mouth about Groton!  Mine graduated BC 4/4, completed his A school and ready to rock BESS :)

elilam46- Good for you joining groups you can be as active or silent as you like. One little tip if you see a bit of info. that catches your eye copy, paste and put it in a folder on your computer. That way you don't have to spend your time searching through post after post and the various groups to find it. Don't ever be afraid to ask a question no matter how stupid you think it is there are no stupid question! Really!

Boot Camp Moms is going to be your life saver. And I mean that literally, when you feel like you're drowning from sadness, frustration you name it lemon elephant, Catmom, msrs and many more will be there to help. Remember we're here too :-) Don't forget the positive side because that is what you want to focus on!! That's the best part the pride and camaraderie that you'll experience!! Enjoy the journey in the making of your future Sailor :-D

FATHOMOM- Awesome news so happy for you, YAY Sailors coming home!!

When all of you proud mom's are saying a hello my hubby and I will be saying farewell to our Marine on the 25th! But that's what we all do greetings and farewells are a part of our lives now.

elilam46- Enjoy the BC experience and PIR there is nothing like it! Take advantage of all the support you'll receive on NFM's. You will form friendships that will last you through the many stages of training in your future Sailors career.

As usual the car situation will be different for everyone your Sailor has to make the ultimate decision if it's worth his time and energy. Also if you're willing to drive your son's vehicle across country you will not be the first, sounds like you're more than willing :-) Our son purchased a car while in CT. The one here at home is older and wasn't worth the effort to get it to Groton. He made a very wise decision in his choice and bought a Subaru. He said it was like a tank getting him and his buddies through all the weather conditions. That would be my recommendation make sure this is a vehicle that can withstand very severe weather. He loved having the independence a car afforded, allowing to him to explore the area. He made trips to Boston with his buddies on more than one occasion, others made trips to New York City. He'll have to wait like everyone to earn this privilege and level of liberty.

When he first gets to,Groton he will have to earn his way up to driving and wearing civilian clothes. It will be a few weeks maybe a month or so before that happens.he will defiantly have more freedom when he arrives there compared to BC .i am sure some other moms can tell u more and add on to my basic info. Write ur son a lot of letters while at BC , they love getting mail.
