For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

So I do as much as I can and usually pay for it the next day lol. It was an easy hike with a path but it was a good place to start. We walk a mile and a half and took lots of pics. :)

Mentioning this because Libertyville also has some same hotels, but is a little further away~~

Comment by diannep on July 22, 2014 at 11:06pm: christinanaykol: That is really not too far from RTC....if your sailor will be flying out, you won't be going to RTC except for PIR and to return your sailor to base that night. If your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, which means your sailor has Liberty throughout the weekend, including Labor Day, it still is probably ok. Those staying in GL for A School normally have from about 7 a.m until 10 pm for Liberty Sat, Sun, and probably Labor Day for this group. Friday Liberty starts after they move over to that base shortly after PIR is over. So it starts usually about mid-afternoon.

Navy Lodge (about a mile from RTC, reasonable rates, book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID)

Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn....all about 4-5 miles from RTC (10 min)....these hotels are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for you all. Be sure to call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount. Cancellation policies at the hotels are pretty liberal when you book direct...usually up until the day before or day of arrival with no penalty, should your plans change.

Check out Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic)....no change fee should your SR get delayed and 2 bags check for free.

He says if it was easy everyone would be joining up...it's because they are all special, dedicated to being the best that they are even here! :)
