DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

SusanB ~ I don't think you can do that. They are only permitted to send letter size envelopes. And their space is VERY limited.  :(

Comment by SusanB on July 24, 2014 at 3:48am

Does anyone know if I can send down a manila envelop and my sr can send some of the letters he received back home?  I am not sure how much space they have to save things.  Thanks!   Ship 14 Div 273

USPS has a new Navy stamp out this month on the 26th that would look great on our recruits letters. https://store.usps.com/store/browse/productDetailSingleSku.jsp?cate...

Hi gina! My SR is also in that division...and i haven't gotten a letter yet, either.

My SR is in Div 274 ship 14. Has anyone from that division received a letter yet? :)

Comment by diannep on July 23, 2014 at 10:56pm

MamaBurt:  They can buy stamps there, but if you want to save them some of their supply card money, then mail some in your next letter.

Becca, I'm so excited to hear that you received your first letter. That just gives me hope that I will get one soon.

Stacybea- congrats on getting your first real letter! That gives me hope that maybe i will get one soon too!  Do they have time to go buy stamps?   maybe I should mail him some stamps? I didn't think of that...

diannep: Thats how my relationship is with his whole family :) They are all so kind to me, and are always willing to give me advice or support. I don't know what i would do without them. Even when i feel really crappy, one of them can always find some way to cheer me up! I feel so blessed that my SR's family is so awesome.
