Ensignbenson you have just learned that big lesson that your son now belongs to the US Navy!  It is so different from sending them to college, I agree. Our Navy sons and daughters will come back a different person.  They will grow up a lot faster than we would like and need less from their parents.  We are parents have to let go (but be supportive), stand back, and watch with great pride as our children become the adults that we have always wanted. Congratulations, Mom. Give yourself a pat on your back for a job well done. Now the Navy gets her turn.

For the puppy dog who also misses your son....good for you for putting his t-shirt in his kennel.  I would have done the same thing.  Great idea!!

Owatonna is no problem for me. I work a typical M-F schedule so the weekends are better for me. Debbie, let me know the next time you will be in Rochester. Maybe we could meet. I am usually done with work by 4:00pm.
I received my sons box from Great Lakes. His dog is missing him so I put his dirty t-shirt in the dogs kennel. Is that too weird? Some days I think I'm losing it. Other days I think there should be a book on how to handle this transition. Sending his brother off to college was much easier.

Hi Ensignbenson and Debbie, there are about 6 of us here in the Mankato area.   Owatonna could be a meeting/lunch place???   We have had gatherings at a restaurant here for brunch, or lunch.  Let me know if something like lunch could work for you.  I have the summer off because I work with the school district and will be back at my job in mid September.   My sailor just left yesterday heading back to his carrier(in dry dock)in VA.  He went through Nuke school, and his first deployment was 2/13-7/13   November will be 4 years in for him/us.

Hi. My son just began basic last week. I am missing him but I know he will succeed at this. I am counting down the days until graduation (50). Is there anyone in this group from the Rochester area?

Welcome KimberLD. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Someone will come up with the answer or be able to direct you as to where you can find it.

Hi to all of you.  Hope your 4th of July weekend was wonderful.  We had a great one.  Between funerals we have had a busy summer so far.  My mother-in-law passed away at the end of May...there have been 3 funerals at church since May and this weekend we have one for a mother of 2 students at our high school.  Our Navy son brought his girlfriend home to meet us when he came home on leave.  (Thankfully in between the funerals).  We enjoyed meeting her.  I don't think I will be able to make a summer get-together...hopefully in the fall.

Happy 4th of July everyone!!! Hopefully no more rain!! We've been helping a friend on Prior Lake with sandbagging. It's helped some but still water can seep in. At least the weather is helping the water go down a bit. But boy does my body feel the effects of up, down, lift, twist ...
I know what you mean about mushrooms J.J. I have a few huge ones in my yard also. It is surprising how fast they grow.
Have a Good 4th I think the neighborhood is getting a jump on the festivities early. The poor dog is at his wits end with the ones being shot off this week. Inside outside inside outside he doesn't know where to go : )

Hope all is well with my Navy Moms!  With the 4th of July coming up quick, I can guess that everyone is making plans to celebrate our wonderful Country.  We will be off to the Orphans Pool Party. (That's a pool party for those people NOT going out of town) The weather assures us to have an awesome day and just right temperatures. I am praying for NO rain!  I think that we have had enough rain since I have mushrooms growing really big in our back yard....
