Hi Jan our son couldn't live without his laptop. In fact he just bought a new one for gaming. I was going to make the same suggestion as Shea he can get an amazing deal at the Nex.

Have fun planning for PIR!

God's blessings to your son Shea on his upcoming deployment. My son arrived at Pearl Harbor in May his boat deployed several months prior to his arrival pretty sure it will be returning in the near future.

We gave my son an iPad when he graduated boot camp. He waited to get a lap top until he got to his duty station. They can get really good deals to electronic at the Nex. He paid less than $500 for it! He's getting ready to deploy so now his big decision is which one to take!

Thank you soooo much Bainite!  I won't "load him down" with a lap top then.  :)  He's always done most everything with his smart phone...and has never wanted anything more.  So this is a HUGE help for us.  Now I can actually get him something he wants and/or needs...such as a good watch.  :)

He absolutely does not need one for sub school itself.  Any "outside" computers are strictly forbidden in the teaching/training areas.  He can have one in the barracks/dorms.

If he doesn't already have a laptop for gaming or such, an iPad or a tablet might be good for him to have for your sake. Skype is a wonderful thing for this sort of situation.  I know it was a joy for us to see our first son when he was in A-School.

Good Morning!  My son went to boot exactly 1 week ago and I am anxiously waiting for the "form" letter so I can book my stuff for PIR.  He is set to go to sub school next.  Now, he is one who has never really wanted a lap top and such.  However, now I wonder if he might need one for sub school, A school and the like?  Anyone know if he might need a lap top or an iPad?  If so, I'd like to give it to him at PIR.  Thanks!!!  :)
